I tried spraying my pan with no-stick spray this year and it ended up burning my seeds.

:sad::sad::sad::sad::sad:

I wonder if I can con my DD into scooping out another pumpkin for me.

 I would think without real oil, the seeds would be too dry.

There are plenty of pumpkins this year. You have till Thanksgiving to try a couple more pumpkins. :thumbsup2

I was cleaning pumpkins for a child last night, got to thinking about it maybe I could make money by cleaning out peoples pumpkins for them. Let us know how your next batch comes out. Jo

:( That's sad!

I'm coincidentally enjoying my homemade seeds as I type! I had success with Pam...

you guys aren't washing the pumpkin seeds are you? You're supposed to leave some of the pumpkin stickiness on. It coats the seeds.

I coat the seeds with a little oil, season them and roast them at 325 for 20 mins. That's it, they tend to keep cooking a little after you take them out of the oven. I used to love them as a kid, but now, I can't seem to handle them.
My kids do love them though.

Not as good as fresh out of a pumpkin, but Trader Joe's has yummy shelled pepitas~

Yup, no stick spray will do that every time. What's your addy? I'll snail mail you some... oh wait, I can't the kids have laid claim to them!

I wash the seeds and soak them in a brine solution for about 2-3 hours. Then rinse again and pat dry. Cook on tinfoil without oil or spray (just seems to stick less) at 275 F for 30 min, toss them around a bit to try and get the wet parts to the top and cook for another 30 min. I know they're done when a nutcracker will cause a seed shell to split down the middle without cracking it in 2.

Sorry to hijack, but do you eat pumpkin seeds with or without the shell (so like a sunflower seed where you spit the shell, or just eat the whole thing?)

I eat the whole thing. I did just realize that I can buy some tomorrow and just cut them in half to get the seeds out, not like I need to preserve them for carving :lmao:. I HATE cleaning out pumpkins, DD loves it.

Glad you found a solution! :thumbsup2

I always eat the seeds whole, but then I started thinking about it and wondered if that was proper or if I would wind up growing a pumpkin in my stomach :rotfl:

I've always wondered the same thing! Do you eat the pumpkin seed shell? I know you can but they don't sell them unshelled in the stores.

It's probably how I cook them that turns them this way... soaked in salt, no oils or other spices.

You probably aren't cooking them long enough to dry them out all the way.

I've never shelled them and I have yet to grow a pumpkin in my stomach. :)

Low & slow is the way to go.

I do mine at 250 for about an hour - hour & half. I rinsed, dried, salted and put on bad with no oil just a big a spray on the pan. I flipped/shook every 25 mins.
