I brought Brie cheese today

and had some on a cracker - it was good but so is cream cheese which tastes the same. Am I missing something?

Did you bake the brie? It tastes really good baked on small crisps with some small figs...

Must not have been very good brie. If it takes like/similar to cream cheese, you should ask for help picking out some good brie. Baked with almond slivers, spread on apple slices -mmmmmmmmmm. Bake it with a little butter and cinammon on top.

I've never had Brie that tasted like cream cheese. It has a very distinctive, strong taste and while it's creamy, it doesn't have the same texture as cream cheese. I'm not sure what you were eating. Maybe it was a Brie flavored processed spread or something.

Yeah I was going to say that. Cold Brie is no biggie. But hot melty Brie? It's..... Yeah. You can find recipes all over but a very simple one is to spread a little seedless raspberry jam on a small wheel of Brie. Then wrap the whole thing in some puff pastry. Brush with egg. Bake til golden. You can cut it up and eat the pastry and have some crackers or French bread to spread the gooey yummy Brie on.

Presidente is a brand that Walmart and Albertson's carries and is pretty good

like others have mentioned, it SHOULD NOT taste like cream cheese...Definitely ask someone next time in the cheese department to help you pick out a good kind. It really is delicious if you get a good one.

Whatever makes it "spreadable" is probably what tastes like cream cheese.

Brie comes in a wheel.....the only trick is that it's room temperature.

DW's super easy appetizer.

croiscants layered in a deep baking dish (tall enough to wrap over and close the top at the end)

add one brie wheel in the center

add one jar apricot preserves

bake till golden brown and cheese is warm/melted.

cut similar to a pie slice

I love brie cheese!! My DH did buy me some of that spreadable kind once, and even some that came in little tiny wedges (wrapped in foil) and they were not good; nothing like the big wedge. Get the big wedge and try one of the recipes someone posted, or just heat it up and spread it on some good crackers...it's excellent. Should taste nothing like cream cheese at all. I'm sure you will like it much better when you get the good quality kind.

Do you eat the "skin" on the Brie, or do you peel it?

I peeled it off, but felt like I wasted quite a bit of the cheese in doing that.

Okay, that is NOT Brie cheese. It probably is an overpriced cream cheese.

Get a wheel or a wedge of te real thing. Let come to room temperature or bake it as a PPs said.

I peel off the skin. It is too bitter to me. I love the mellow inside.

The skin is edible but not everyone likes it. If you only use part of a wedge and rewrap the rest, the skin will grow over any cut surface. I like the skin it gives above twangy flavor to it. But grocery store Brie is pretty tame compared to some of the specialty brie type cheeses I love.

You are supposed to eat the outside - that's where the flavor is. OP, sounds like you bought the cheese wiz version of brie. I love brie!

I will be taking Brie with raspberry preserved to an event next weekend. I know that you are suppose to leave the white part on, but I was wondering for those who have never have brie, would it be wise for me to cut off the top wedge (leaving the bottom wedge and edge) before heating?
