I brought Brie cheese today

I will be taking Brie with raspberry preserved to an event next weekend. I know that you are suppose to leave the white part on, but I was wondering for those who have never have brie, would it be wise for me to cut off the top wedge (leaving the bottom wedge and edge) before heating?

Yes do! This way those of us who do not eat the skin wouldn't have to, while there is enough left on for those who do.

I keep the top on while heating. After the brie is warmed you can take a portion of the rind off, the brie stays in a nice shape while being warmed if the rind remains.

The rind also takes on a very different taste when warmed.....(rind eaters in this house).
One of my favorite meals is brie, fresh fruit, crusty bread & wine!
Maybe that will be the menu for tonight!

Thanks. I will take this advise. I will heat with the rind and then remove it before putting on the preserves.

Our co-op sometimes has mac-n-brie on their hotbar. Very very good.

I haven't had brie in a long time. Now I want some. :upsidedow

DW's super easy appetizer.

croiscants layered in a deep baking dish (tall enough to wrap over and close the top at the end)

add one brie wheel in the center

add one jar apricot preserves

bake till golden brown and cheese is warm/melted.

cut similar to a pie slice

Mmmmmm good!

Mikeeee

That recipe sounds good and easy! My favorite kind. :)

I love Brie with bits of apple and pears instead of crackers and some craisins on top.

But, to me the all time best way to eat it is with bunch of apple pie insides on top with it all warmed up in the oven a few minutes. On crackers of course:lovestruc We had it this way at a famous restaurant once, funny I don't remember the restaurant but the Brie was memorable.

Ooooo! Those recipes sound so good. :goodvibes

and had some on a cracker - it was good but so is cream cheese which tastes the same. Am I missing something?

I couldn't disagree more... I absolutely love cream cheese, and if it was healthy, I would eat probably 4 - 6 ounces a day. Brie cheese tastes terrible to me.... can't even consider eating it.

I love brie. My boyfriend doesn't enjoy it...but I'm a "cheese" person, love feta, goat, etc. My favorite way to eat brie is just to cut it off the wedge (with skin) onto table water crackers, pop it in the microwave until it melts just a little (about 15 seconds.) YUM! Quick & easy. Can't tell you how many times I've had that and a glass of wine for dinner...

Right Now I am eating a French brie "Belletoile" and it is Fab_U-Lous. :)
I eat it room temperature-never cook it.

I love brie! Though I am not a rind eater myself (except when baked). My favorite Brie recipe is a wheel of brie, dust curry powder on top. Then mango chutney, and finally top with cashews and bakes for about 15 minutes. Sooo tasty!

Do you eat the "skin" on the Brie, or do you peel it?

I peeled it off, but felt like I wasted quite a bit of the cheese in doing that.
I like the stuff on a plain ol' french baguette...

... and that white skin, while you can and are supposed to enjoy it... is MOLD! But then, so is cheese, so... :rotfl: I personally don't do the skin.

We like to eat ours melted with a little butter. I cut the rind off and then cut the brie up into little pieces and melt with a little bit of butter until cheese is all melted. Then eat on toasted french baguette. That's our favorite.

Or unroll a can of crescent rolls and put the cut up brie into the center and put raspberry preserves on top. Fold the sides of the crescent up until you have a little packet and bake in the oven until the crescent is cooked. Serve with crackers. Yumm

The rind is edible, but I usually take it off if it's thick or even a little dried-out looking.

My favorite recipe is to serve brie with a loaf of sliced italian or french bread. Saute' italian frying peppers in olive oil (salt, pepper, a dash of red pepper flakes) and use them to make an open-faced sandwich with the bread and brie. Delish!
