I Blame FP+....

I'm glad you had a good time! I'm a little nervous for our May vacation, but I am going into it with an open mind and really looking forward to it!

I'm no medical expert, but I think you're being way too hard on yourself.

Your touring plan did not cause a seizure. (If it did, there would be Dis-kids dropping like flies.) Your son had a seizure because he had a seizure. If the doctors didn't find a reason, then don't assume you were to blame.

I think that, as parents, we so desperately want to protect our kids from this sort of thing that we take on superhuman powers in our own minds. You do NOT have the power to induce seizures, no matter how busy you were in WDW.

But I'm glad you found a way to stop and smell the roses, and that your son is OK. You poor thing, you must have been terrified.

Enjoy the planning!! I'm currently planning our family reunion/ silver anniversary trip for this summer, and I get such a kick out of the planning! And I'm looking forward to using FP+; my sister loved it when she went to WDW a month or two ago.

I'm not OP, but I want to say how awesome this comment is. Good karma right here.

Yes... We're that lazy family that doesn't make RD

Don't mind me, but I don't think I've come across the abbrv. for RD. What does it mean?

Hi, I'm glad you had a wonderful time!

And, if you don't mind, I'd like to weigh in on the topic of your son's seizure. We've had some experience with this, with both of our kids.

With our daughter, it was just one incident, and we're pretty sure it was because she hadn't eaten all morning and had been sitting the entire time reading. When she jumped up and ran into the kitchen to grab something to eat, all her blood pooled in her feet, causing her to faint, hit the floor, and start seizing. Or as she put it, "My face kept smacking into the floor and I couldn't stop it!"

I'm a horrible mother... I laughed. And then I used it as a lesson to her, as a young lady with low blood pressure, to always eat regular meals, and be careful about standing when she's been sitting or lying down for a long time.

Our son was a bit more concerning, as he's hypoglycemic. This was rather more difficult to deal with. And it raised questions, such as, "Do we let him have a paper route when he's nine? What if he faints somewhere, and no one's around to help him?" In the end I decided I'd do more damage by overprotecting him. So I gave him a cellphone, and let him go. It was terrifying - for me. But for him, it meant we trusted him to be responsible, reliable and capable. And ultimately, he never did end up unconscious in a ditch. Though he did have to sit down and eat a snack, occasionally.

Basically, your kids are going to do things that will terrify you. And sometimes - like you discovered - this can lead to beneficial changes in the way we lead our lives. In our case, our son's hypoglycemia made us all take a good look at what we eat. In your case, you enjoyed a more relaxing vacation! :thumbsup2

But please don't assume that you did anything to cause your son's seizure, or even that he can't "take that kind of pace" any more. Your son is not weak. He's a strong, healthy young man, and you should treat him accordingly.

:hippie:

I liked your title too. It made me look to see what you were posting about. :)

I like that you slowed down and enjoyed the park. I think with little ones you want them to see and experience so much, and I know with me, I will try to plan everything and stress out to make everything happen. It's nice when you can slow down and just enjoy your day. :)

To all you "lazy" people out there- you know who you are- two small kids, big stroller, backpacks, cameras, toys (of course!), having already had to go back to the room twice before getting on the boat to MK, dragged in 4 directions THIS is what FP+ has to offer. A way to relax and enjoy your vacation for a bit without having to drag your family out of bed at the crack of dawn.

We'll be there in a week, and I have read plenty of the hate and some of the love, and I am still reserving my opinion until after I've used it. :)

Hey don't leave out us fisherpeople, joggers and golfers-and agreed not lazy. :hyper:

So glad to hear!! I was one of the nay sayers in the beginning, but I'm starting to see the positives in the system. Now I haven't used it yet but soon. I've got all our ride reservations and ADRs in place and I know what I want to fill in the gaps with. Seems easy peasy. :)

Thanks for the post :goodvibes Everytime when we go to Disney World we go commando style starting at rope drop. By the end of the day we are all so exhausted we end up skipping the evening festivities. We have 6 day hoppers +WP and I'm going to slow down the pace this time, we have plenty of time to take everything in.

Thank you! And the logical part of me knows that you're right...the mom part of me can't get there. Either way, I think it's only benefited us in our touring style. We had a MUCH better time on this trip than the last. My cousin was with us who had always gone with commando touring type friends and she couldn't believe how much more fun we had when we just slowed down. I never would have done it without being forced (by both my DS and FP+)... I wanted to make sure we experienced every single thing we could during our limited time there. I never saw what we were missing, that my DS would much rather do a few things and have a blast than do many many things while rushing through. This works for us so much more.

That's exactly what it offers! I couldn't believe the difference in overall attitude when I wasn't having to try and drag people out the door to make sure we made RD. The kids got up in the morning and asked to play outside on the lawn before going to the parks. That was GREAT! They had a blast doing that. We would never have had time for that with the way I toured before. Those little moments..we had many made this trip amazing.

Keep an open mind! I had a hard time doing that, but I could have saved myself so much stress! Give it a chance. You may be pleasantly surprised :thumbsup2

This was really, really interesting to me. I don't know why it happened to him. He ate, slept, drank, it wasn't overly hot, etc. It just happened, and I know logically that I didn't cause it...but it's that mom guilt that's hard to get over. Anyway, for a while after it happened I would have preferred to wrap him in a bubble. But then we got back and he had to go to school, and to his dad's, and to sports practices and games. Soon enough I realized I can't wrap him in a bubble. I have to let him scare the  out of me. Part of the parenting gig. As far as touring the parks though...you may be right. Maybe he can handle it...but I can say with certainty that he was much happier on this trip. He had an absolute blast and is begging to go back. So I think I'll keep this new way of touring and just work on letting him go while at home. ;)

Good to hear as we leave tom for our. Mardi Gras break. We have everything booked which doesn't leave lots of planning when we get there. We go every year so I'm trying so hard not to be commando this trip. If we get to RD great if not we have 3 rides secured from noon on plus we like nighttime and parks are open late. I think I'm just worried about all the long fastpass waits ect! Trying to focus on what looks like great weather and fun family time!

I wouldn't worry! We really didn't have a huge problem with FP lines. We had sooo much more fun at night time when we weren't tired from running around so early. It just works for us. Have a wonderful trip!

Glad you had a great trip! We had a similar experience last week - loved FP+, too! I have taken DS6 to WDW 14 times now and our trip last week was the best one yet! Love FP+!

I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed it too! I'm amazed at the difference it made for us. I went into the trip so apprehensive, but it was wonderful for us. Also, though I had no intention of doing this when we planned, I was able to switch a lot while in the parks. Considering this was a peak week, I was very impressed with the selection. In no way was I locked into what I had chosen months before. It's not perfect, but it definitely works for us.
