Is that the end of the tunnel? Wait... YES! I do believe I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!!

The company I work for has been struggling for 2 years and I took a BIG paycut($2K/month) in January of 2009.

I was concerned about switching jobs or looking for something new in a bad economy, so we stuck tight and lived very close to the edge for the last two years. We took a DW vacation, but really scaled back, got free airfare and paid cash.

Now, out of the blue, I got contacted by a company about a new position. I interviewed and got offered the job. The benefits are better, the job is great and the pay is a 66% Increase over what I am making now!@!:banana::banana:

I gave my notice ysterday and start after the 4th holiday!!!

It will be well into 2011 until we get breathing room again, but hopefully, with a good tax refund and steady savings, we can go back to the happiest place on earth by fall of 2011.

Hang in there people. Things can and do get better!

Yeah!!! Congrats!! My Dh also Itjust started a new job but he is on commision so have to wait to see how much more we are suposed to get paid? I hope we can see the glimmer somewhere soon as he took a huge pay loss too since oct of 08

Good luck to your husband Monique. Sales is probably one of the roughest gigs out there. I've been in sales my whole career. Good luck to you.

It is so nice to hear a positive thread! I am glad you are doing well.
I think if my 16 year old would get a job we would be doing fine. I do see light at the end of the tunnel, but it still seems far away.
I don't think we will be seeing WDW in the near future, but I did splurge for Toys Story 3 in 3D. It cost $70 to bring my family, but we satisfied our "Disney fix" for a while.

Update!

Current employer called me in today (4 days left at this job) and offered a raise and a percentage of sales to stay on...

I hate to jump to the unknown with the new job, but I gave them my word that I'd start next week, so I'll be there.

Kinda ticks me off in a way that they waited almost two weeks to make me an offer to stay.

Congratulations! I just wanted to comment on your new situation with your employer offering you a raise to stay. I wouldn't necessarily feel obligated to the new company. If you didn't sign a contract I would probably do what was best for you and your family. That may mean the new job maybe the old one, but I would decide based on what's best for you, not just because you told them you'd be there. I admire your moral decision but when it comes right down to it businesses do what's best for them, so should you. Don't they always tell us, "It's just business". Of course you may burn some bridges and that will need to be considered.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do, sounds like things are really on the upswing for you. I am hoping hopeful thoughts for everyone still looking for a job.

I am in a similar situation to you right now. I discovered this board as I am striving to go to disneyland this December but trying to figure out how to swing it. Thank you for sharing you give me hope.

The GOOD news is that my DW and I already discussed what I would do if they made a counter-offer. It is not in the best interest of this company to offer me a raise at this time. Cash flow is a big problem. So, my staying would hurt the company, which is already stressed. Easy decision.

Plus if you did take it, they would always know that you were ready and willing to leave. Which doesn't make for the best working relationship.

Congratulations on your new job!
