I am totally confusing myself need some help.

Ok we just bought AKL and we got Dec UY and we got 08 points. Now we are not planning to go until Dec 19th 09. By then my 08 points would have expired. I plan on calling 11 months to get our room. So my first question is do I bank my points for 08 to use for our 09 trip? Or do I borrow the points from 09 to make our reservation? I have 210 pts a year and for this trip I need 220.

Now we may be bringing friends with us if so we will only need 4 nights there, if we go with just us we need 7. They are still undecided and I know since we are looking at Christmas I need to book at 11 months. I was thinking of booking the 2 rooms one for the 4 and one for the 7 and if they come changing the one from 7 to 4 and if they don't canceling the 4 nights. But will I lose any points. Either way I would be using all of 08's points and some of 09's points.

I know its just me over thinking it but I want to make sure I don't lose any points and I get the most of it.

If that will be your next trip...bank the points. Whatever you book for next December, MS should use those banked points first for the reservation and you can talk to them about it so it's done the way you want it. I would use the banked points for our reservation because that's what's for sure, and if the others don't come, there will be '09 points used for that, and they could still most likely be banked provided they don't back out the last minute. You want to still be in your banking period.

If you don't use all of those banked '08 points, you will not be able to rebank them, so they will have to be used by November 30th, '10.

I agree with bobbi - bank the 2008 points first and then make the reservation. Be sure MS uses the banked points before any of the 2009 points.

December use years can be tough to get used to -you have to forget about calendar years. If you haven't already, spend some time with the Understanding Use Year thread.

Thanks I think I just got myself confused by over thinking it. We actually bought for a Dec use year because we knew we could only go once a year at Christmas for right now. So we actually had to buy in at less points since we knew we would always be ahead with the previous years points. I think I just got confused as to when the points came out at reservation time or at check in time. So we get 210 points a year when we go we will have 420 pts. 210 from 08 that are banked and 210 from Dec. We will use 260 leaving us with 160 that we will bank for use for the next December. I also think I got confused with adding the other family and wondering what to do if they decide not to go.

So do I have it right with how we are using our points?

We have a Dec UY, too, and I actually like it because it seems to keep us out of borrowing mode!

First, remember UY just has to do with when your points are replenished and banking deadlines. You still use the 11/7 month window for booking.

For your Dec 09 trip you have the following available:

210 UY 2008 12/1/08 banked (be sure to bank by 7/31/09)
must be used by 11/30/2010
210 UY 2009 12/1/09
420 points avail for Dec trip

If your trip is 220 points, you will use 210 banked points from 2008 and 10 points from 2009. Confirm with MS when you make the reservation that this is what you are doing. You will have 190 2009 points left over to bank and use by 11/30/2011 or use by 11/30/2010.

If you think that you will have lots of points left over, maybe you will want to invite friends or increase your room size.

Look at your contract online and you'll see by when you have to book. We have Dec UY as well and bank in July...
