Hello all,

I am thinking of buying a resale. Question is...can I buy two separate interests to combine a number of points? For example, I need about 300 points. Can I buy 200 at the Wilderness Lodge and 100 at Old Key West? Do I have the 11 month reservation benefit at both locations...or do I need to pick one resort?

What is the negative of doing this? How would fees work here?

Does anyone know the fees for these two resorts?

What do you recommend?

Thank you,

I can answer some of your questions.
You would have the 11 month window for the points at that resort - so, in your example, you would have 200 points with an 11th month window at the Wilderness Lodge and 100 with an 11th month window at Old Key West.

For the fees, you would get a separate bill for each resort. We actually have 3 contracts (all at OKW) and we get 2 separate bills.

If you bought 2 different contracts as ou describe, you would hve some additonal tracking to do regarding reservation-making and banking & borrowing. DVC would treat each as a separate contract - you may even end up with two different member numbers. It's certainly doable (many here do have contract set ups like you describe), but it is not as easy as keeping track of one contract with one home resort.

Best wishes -

If the two contracts have the same use year month, you can set it up so they are both under the same membership number and contract number.

You would have to buy one contract first, and get it completely done with all closing completed, points assigned, etc.

Then you purchase the 2nd contract (it must have the same use year month), and have your broker work with DVC to have that contract put on as an Add-On contract to your first contract instead of as a new Contract and new Membership number.

The differences between having an Add-On contract instead of two separate contracts is that at 7-months you may combine points from add-on contracts to make a reservation. Also, your banking percentages are based on the two contracts combined.

Separate contracts with separate membership numbers are not combined for banking purposes. All banking is done separately. Also, you may not directly combine points to make a single reservation.

No matter which you do, the 11-month and 7-month windows still apply to home resorts and non-home resorts as far as reservations go.

If you have combined your Add-On contract and then want to sell a portion of the points later, can you sell just the Add-On contract portion of the points?

You can buy as many contracts as you want. As a matter-of-fact, I would recommend it, since having several small contracts is preferable if you have to sell some or all of them.

As far as booking. you can book at the resorts for the amount of points you have at the 11 month window. Then you can book at the 7 month window for the rest.

For example, if you have 100 points each at OKW & VWL, you can book 100 points worth of "stay" at VWL at the 11 month wondow using your VWL points. If you wanted to add more time at VWL, you'd then have to wait until the 7 month window to book more time at the VWL using your OKW points, if more time was available.
