I just put my Mom, age 71, on a plane to Orlando by herself. She has never traveled alone before. She was always with my Dad who passed 6 years ago and since then with us. When we had to cancel us going on this trip, she ws really bummed out and really wanted to go still. So off she goes... and here I sit worried. Yes, I know she is an adult and quite capable but she does get frazzled and a little oblivious sometimes. Her plane was delayed due to the storms in Orlando so she already called and was concerned, UGH! I really hope she has a wonderful time, lots of fun and stays safe. Thanks for letting me air my worry!

That's sweet that you're worried, and would be the exact same way. She's having an adventure traveling on her own, and I'm sure she'll have a great time! :goodvibes

She'll be fine. :goodvibes But I know how you feel. Although my parents are world travelers, they only ever go to the World with me - and I always drive while we are there. A few years ago, I got delayed so they started the trip on schedule and caught up with them the next day. I was very nervous about them navigating Disney property on their own. I showed Mom the exact route to the hotel and described everything so she would remember - things like "you remember, when we had to get in the far right lane to go through the ticket archway to get to the hotel and then you go down a little hill before you turn left". She assured me they would be fine but I was still nervous. :rotfl:

Your Dad makes me nervous!

That's Colonel Dad to you First Sargeant. :lmao: Although you do have more jumps than him. :worship:

My college BFF was terrified of my father (probabaly still is). I just told her you can't let him scare you - just talk back to him or know when to go your bedroom and get out of his way. If that doesn't work then you just start to cry and he has no clue what to do.

My MIL (age 72) has been traveling a lot since my FIL's passing in July 09. She did get lost in Barcelona in January when she went to Spain/France with my oldest BIL. She had learnt key Spanish phrase prior to her trip.

She is taking her older granddaughter to Ireland in June. She knows how to get around plus knows plenty of relatives/friends over that side of the pond.

There's a lot of wonderful folks at WDW that I'm sure will be more than happy to help out if she needs help with anything at all. I wouldn't worry too much especially if she has a cell phone that you can both stay in contact as needed.

Your post cracked me up as I even printed my Mom out a map (3 pages) of the airport and showed her which gate she would arrive at and where to go to get her bag. I then had directions, reservations etc. and all in chronological order in a folder. She laughed when I gave it to her and said she didn't know what she would do without me. BTW, she did arrive safely!

Does she have a gps unit?

One of my bil/sil gave one to my dear MIL.

She has one at home. The thought of her driving around Orlando frightens me :scared1:

The thought of MIL driving on the other side of road in Ireland frightens me. MIL has a list of all the red light/speed cameras in the Baltimore, MD area.
