Hey Kandj2,

Are you serious, you found Westgate for 655? That would scare me!!!

About DVC, there are two online places that a lot of us go through... they www.timesharestore.com (Shontell) & www.atimeshare.com (Jaki Apets)

DVC offers unlimited flexibility, any time of year, any size unit & you can book the other DVC resorts 7 months out (your home resort you book at 11 months out)... then you can also use points to stay at the moderate & deluxe resorts on property.... What that all means, is that you can get a studio for as little as 40.00/weeknight & a 1 bedroom for 80.00/weeknight in the off-season (September, early December & January).... Because Disney has the right of first refusal, the resale market values are still very high for DVC also, meaning that you didn't lose 50% of your payment once you've bought.... But, Westgate for 655? I might have to look at that myself LOL...

Chris I would kid you about a lot of things but NEVER that - lol! Just to prove it...

Go to www.ebay.com

Click search

Choose search by item number

look under these auction numbers:

1679123542
1679123542
1679177354
1679375843

These are all closed so the bidding is done! I can't believe it! You better believe I won't be buying there - they are giving them away!

DVC is looking better and better for holding its value.

Hi Kandj2,

I just can't believe it LOL... You're right a week every other year sold for 655.00, that's pretty incredible.... I can't believe someone could lose so much money trying to sell the week!!!!

I think I'd still go with DVC LOL... but 655 for Westgate :D Oh My!!

Hi Dutton & other fellow cheapskates,
My inlaws used to own a vacation home near Disney and we (very lucky of course) stayed once or twice a year. We would eat breakfast in, lunch at the parks, and dinner at the house. Usually something quick like spaghetti, hamburger helper, canned soup and sandwiches, or frozen pizza and bagged salad . Not gourmet, but very cheap and easy.

Let's see...2 rt airfares from Bangor, ME, $302 total on Priceline. Midsize car from National EA (disaster, won't do again), $124 with taxes. $300 for 2 5 day PH's (had leftover days to cash in, also got DC discount from kind CM even tho I'm not a member). $120 my share for 7 nites in 2br villa at Marriott's Grand Vista (dsis has timeshare benefits). Not sure what I spent on groceries (b'fasts and dinners, water&juice for parks, daily ice cream treats), counterservice lunches/dinners, souveniers, etc...about $125 in cash and about the same on my credit card (included gas fill up for rental car, also bought sandals for me and dress, two tee shirts and daypack for daughter, ears for new niece, other souveniers too)...spent about $1100 altogether, not too bad, considering we stayed in a luxury villa, had our own rental car, and ate pretty well (we had counter service Japanese dinner in Epcot one night, CP character b'fast one a.m., take out from Olive Garden for one dinner and a dinner at Chef Mickey's). I can't quite bring myself to go too cheaply, like the folks who buy sandwich meat at home in bulk, freeze it and bring it down to make into frozen sandwiches that thaw during the a.m. for lunch in the park...just can't do that! Don't think it would have been much cheaper to drive down in my van (gas in NE was about $1.40 at the time, tolls, about 60 hrs. roundtrip driving & milage on van, 2 hotel rooms, and couldn't have taken any extra time off, so would have driven 4 days to vacation 5 days). Besides, how UGLY is the long, depressing drive home, leaving WDW behind for another year? Travelled with sister and her family, so didn't do timeshares for tickets, although I would on the trips that DH can go (all timeshares I've seen say both hubby and wife must attend). Of course, DH usually goes to WDW in conjunction with a conference, which pays for our hotel, rental car, his airfare and all his meals, which saves a bundle, too! I try to really balance my cost cutting with the thought that it IS our vacation, after all!
