I just got a call...a nurse that I worked years with at the hospital just died an hour ago. Second fellow nurse in 1 month. She had a grandbaby on the way and 3 already here. Both had cancer. Is it just down here, or is cancer deaths rampant where you are?

I can still hear Pat, every single time she got off the phone with one of her girls..."I love you my darling". I know she is at peace...when I saw her last week she just kept smiling.

A nurse at my new job just got diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer and another friend at work finds out if she has it in 2 weeks.

Prayers would be appreciated for all of them please.

That's so sad. Cancer is such a horrible disease. I'm sorry for you and all those close to you.

It just seems like it is going crazy. I'm so sorry. It's sad and frightening.:(

I'm so sorry to hear all this. It must be very hard to watch fellow nurses pass on. They and their loved ones, as well as yourself, are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear about your dear friends:( :( :( :( :( . There's certainly no order or merit system or divine intervention involved in the lottery of disease and suffering. Any of us could be next..........

{{{hugs}}} Donna. You and your friends will all be in my prayers.

It's been pretty sad around here too.:(

So very sorry. I know what you mean. We have alot of cancer around here as well. My brother in law had testicular cancer and is now ok, sister in law tyroid cancer, and another dear brother in law oral cancer and is NOT ok.. We just got the word today he is unoperable. The cancer has spread around his carotic artery. and now it's only a matter of time. He is in excruciating pain. He's 57 and it all seems so unfair. I truely hate cancer. I've been lucky and battled it 13 years ago, and I terrified all the time that it will come back.

I hear you, and I am so sorry to hear of this loss...prayers and hugs to you and all involved...

I'm sorry for the loss of your coworker and friend. Cancer is a terrible disease. {{hugs}} and prayers.

In the past year one of the nurses at our hospital died from cancer. I can still picture her the day I saw her in the cafeteria with her son. The CNO approached her with a wheelchair and said...your chariot awaits. She cracked a smile over that. So sad.

It's not just where you live, it's everywhere. My father-in-law died from pancreas and lung cancer, then 10 months later my mother-in-law died from esphogus cancer. My God-mother died of throat cancer last year and this year my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am having surgery in October on a thyroid nodule that is "cold" and could possibly be cancer. HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT!!!!

First of all prayers for you and your friend's family. Next, I wish I did not relate so well. This past Saturday a friend of mine (we went to a breast cancer retreat last December together in AZ) passed away. She too had breast cancer (the exact same kind I have). At first I was so sad and felt so bad for her family, then I got really mad, and now for the past couple of days I've been really depressed and in a self-pity type mood. It's so unlike me, but I kept reading her obit, she too has a daughter named Emily and I swear it was like reading my own death announcement. I"ve also wondered if cancer is everywhere or if I'm just more aware now that I have cancer. Either way it's so tragic all the lives being taken. Sorry to ramble, this just really touched a cord with me.

Lisa

LISA, I'm so sorry to read of your friend's passing:( :( . However, I'm sure that she respected your courage as we do. I too would be mad.............I too would be sad. However, I'm sure that she would want you to fight for the months and years ahead; she lives on in part through your memory of her...........soooooooooooo, we'll just have to have you stay around for a loooooooong time.:) :) :) :) :) :) :) .

All my best,

Yes, Donna, very sad. Cancer has touched our family, a lot. Marie's dad, my mom. Her grandmother, and many aunts and uncles. Her mom and she herself are survivors, but always in the back of their minds, mine also, is that concern, that worry. So many folks here on the DIS have contracted it, themselves, their families. Sad, yes. My prayers are with them all. Lisa, you know where I am, my prayers continue with you. {Hugs}, my friend.

Thoughts and prayers have been sent your way and their way.

Donna so sorry there is so much sadness and sorrow in your life right now. Sometimes it seems we are overwhelmed with the loss of so many of our friends and relatives. Sending some comforting {{{HUGS}}}

Sorry to hear of this!
Cancer is a problem in our area, they have been doing studies for years on the link between our water and the high number of childrens cancer cases. Its very scary. There is even a foundation set up to help the parents of these affected kids.:(
