With the cost of gas, we may have to rethink our trip in October,I am so sad :(
We are driving from Ontario and what we figured may have cost us about 800 to drive to FW, is now looking like it may double by then.
Reading all the posts about the recent GG you Diser's are on makes me even more sad :( I'm so jealous!! I am going to have to make some Kungaloosh and do back flips in my pool just to ease my pain....lol ;)

Sorry to hear that. I think the high fuel prices are hear to stay and it will be worse next year. I have read that alot of RVers are staying within a few hundred miles of home for their trips.

YOU CAN DO IT!!! You have a little over 4 months to save up the difference. Dig thru your house & sell stuff on Craigslist. Have yard sales & bake sales.

Better yet.... place containers next to the cash registers at your local convenience stores with this picture on it....

:lmao:

Just eat all of your meals in the Camper. You'll save enough to offset the gas costs. Disney food is kind of a ripoff.....price wise.

Unfortunately, you're probably not the only one. Although, I know that's probably not much consolation. However, you do have some time, and you never know what might happen. It is kind of tough for October, with the holidays coming right after that, I can understand your hesitation.

Here's hoping we all win the lottery!:wizard: Gas will not be a worry, and we will ALL be able to meet in FW!

I think the key now is to plan, plan ,plan ! Our vacation plans for this year have totally changed, we had planned on going to the FW this May but because of my dh job slowing down and the price of gas, we have put off our vacation to WDW until next year and then we are going to go for two weeks.:thumbsup2

So instead of taking three small vacations this year like we usually do we are taking one and saving our big trip until we can afford it better next year.

We put all our change in a large jar, year-round and use it for trips and travel extras. I also regularly drop dollar bills in the jar. This adds up. I't helps prevent me from impulse buying junk food during the week. On average we can save about $400 dollars this way between yearly trips.

we all know what you mean. post poning trips stinks :( .

but, sometimes you just have to say no.

my family has a trip planned for october also and we said a while back we won't be going. i do know that we are not the only country going through this.

i do have a solution to our disney problems:
we just need our employers to pay us more..

I think you need to re look at your calculations. Gas has gone up, but what you are suggesting is that it will be nearly $8.00 per gallon by October. While I will not say it is impossible, I would think it is highly unlikely.

Our Calculations in January:

Gas at $3.00/gallon
880 miles each way / 10 miles per gallon = 88 gallons x $3.00 = $264 or $528 round trip

Now at $4.00/gallon
880 miles each way/ 10 miles per gallon = 88 gallons x $4.00 = $352 or $704 which is an increase of $176 but compared to the rest of our trip as a whole is a really small part. We can save that much by eating two less meals in the parks for our family of 6.

Good Luck

fuel prices are just geting out of control. they seem to rise every two to three days in the uk have risen some 30% in the last 3 moths as too has the cost per barrel. according to our news the are two underlying reasons for this.
1 the cost per barrel is rising as pruduction is out stripped by demand solution ask opec to increase production after all they rely on the safety that the usa and uk govment provide using our taxes.
2 demand from the rising economies of china and india etc is forcing up demand. if we stopped buying sub standard products produced in sweat shops in the third world they wont be demanding the oil, agian our money. large business dont need to pay $.50 for a tee shirt that they sell for $10 its the greed of the middlemen.

I've also started a piggy bank for our trip. The kids even know if they find money on the ground to put it in there for our trip.

Sorry to hear this, here's to hoping gas prices can stabilize sometime soon :/

I agree with Yensid MD. While it sounds like gas costs are going through the roof, if you just look at the math it isn't all that bad that you need to cancel your trip. I looked at my numbers and our trip will cost around $350 more than last year if the price stays below $5.00 per gallon. I just take the amount it costs to fill my tank ($135 for 36 gallons at $3.75 last time) and put that amount in the gas fund. I've done this each month using the current price. I may have to make up some during the trip due to price increases but the bulk of the cost is covered.
