I am so lucky to be alive right now!

wow, glad to hear that you are okay. That had to be scary for you and your hubby. Thanks God that you made it okay! Be blessed and thanks for the PSA!

I am so glad you are on the mend.

Of course now I am going to have a conversation with my GYN at my next appointment. I take BCP too and now I am scared about blood clots even though they are a rare side effect.

OP, that is very scary! So glad you are okay.

My DD started taking BCP when she was 14 for her complexion. About a year ago, she started having high blood pressure. I made her stop taking the BCPs. Her blood pressure went back to normal. About three months ago, she started having a lot of pain. I took her to the doctor and he thinks she has endometriosis. She is having several tests this next two weeks followed by a laproscopic procedure. I do not want her to go back on the pill. I am sure the pill was keeping the endometriosis under control, but I don't think she should take the chance with her blood pressure. I hope there is another treatment for endometriosis besides birth control.

My goodness! There is another thread, that I just posted on, about another DISer that had blood clots caused by Nuvaring.

OP, take care of yourself and feel better soon! :goodvibes:goodvibes

I am so happy you are ok. Thank you for letting others know your story it could help save another life. Bless you.

I just saw that too! OP, if you don't mind me asking, were you also on Nuvaring?

Wow, that's scary. I've been taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for years. I'm kinda worried now. Glad you feel better!

Just wanted to say what a scary thing to go through and I'm so glad you're ok. Take care :)

My DH had DVTs and then bloodclots in his lungs ... as a result we found that he carries a gene - Factor II and Factor V which causes blood clots ... we now know that our DD has the gene and by taking blood thinners through her 2 pregnancies she has 2 healthy boys ... my daughter luckily stopped taken birth control pills after she got headaches (!) before we knew about the gene.

I truly believe that all women who go on birth control pills should be tested for Factor II and Factor V if they have a family history of varicose veins, strokes, DVTs or other clot-related conditions. Doctors should routinely ask questions about blood-clotting medical bistory the way they do about smooking and drinking ...

These genes cause miscarriages and stillborns. These genes cause strokes, deadly lung conditions ... my husband's grandfather passed away at 49 from a blood clot after minor surgery, his mother passed away from a stroke at 55 and lost 2 babies ... now we know they probably carried these genes.

Another blood clot here - from the pill. Last October, while on Seasonale.

Luckily I had symptoms for only a day - recognized what it was. Went to the ER, had an ultrasound and it was a clot.

Not hospitalization needed, just injections and coumadin. Fun times.

Now have an IUD which I love even more than the pill. My cousin with severe endo has an IUD too - as a teenager and it is controlling her pain.

Thank you to EVERYONE for your well wishes and stories. I still sit here scared, overwhelmed and very emotional thinking about what I went through and what still may come. I am thanking God every morning for giving me another day!

No, I wasn't on the Nuvaring. Just oral birth control pills. I haven't had time to look for the other thread, but I am so glad that she is doing OK too.

And to the others who have had this, thank God you are here still, blessing to all of you.

I am so happy you are ok. Thank you for letting others know your story it could help save another life. Bless you.

I pray that through my story I too can help someone else. I know it is said so often that it seems like a cliche, but hug all your loved ones, tell them you love them, and don't put off anything!!! You never know...

Again thanks to everyone!

Mommy2three, I am so sorry you are going through this too. I hope your levels are good and you can soon go home. Is there anyone who can give you the shots? My poor DH who HATES needles is giving me the shots. Hopefully someone can help you out. The shot actually doesn't hurt going in for me either, must be a small enough needle.

Together we certainly will see the world in different eyes! I will pray for you, hang in there, and please let me know when you get home, so I can celebrate with you.

PS can you post a link to your thread so I can read it too?

Princess Vija and Mommyof3, I am so glad you both recognized the warning signs and caught this in time, and for telling everyone about your symptoms. I had a friend die in the ER waiting room from a blood clot that moved, and they said it was directly related to bcp. She was only 23-it doesn't matter what your age, weight or ethnic background is, everyone is susceptible.

OP---I'm so glad you went to the hospital!!

I took my friend to the ER about 2 yrs ago...she came over to my house, and wanted me to look at her arms. She thought maybe one looked bigger, it felt funny, kind of hurt in a strange way. Her right arm was bigger, almost looking as though it was retaining fluid. I convinced her to go to the ER and sure enough...she had a blood clot as well. She had just restarted BCP pills a few weeks earlier. She was 35 at the time, former smoker, in great physical shape. She ended up in ICU for a week as well,
