I refuse to cater to my kids and entertain them on weekends, especially my 11 year old. She seems to think that when she's bored , mommy will be the one taking her to the mall or doing something with her so she's not bored. Guess what? It won't happen. First of , she needs absolutely no more clothes ( she threw a fit yesterday because I would not buy her a pair of flip flops, because she only has three , today she wants shorts, she doesn't need any!
Why is it that they always want something? Funny how when they can do something around the house to make some money and help , they are never interested.
If she comes to me again today and tells me that she's bored, I will give her a list of things that she can do that she will not be bored for a month!
I may add that my kids go to a local waterpark almost daily in the summer and they always have friends there with them , so it's not like they do nothing in the summer. What the heck do they think? that I am going to entertain 24 hours a day 365 days a year?
BTW, just to that you all know , I never get her anything! She goes to school barefoot and naked and she never eats or does anything fun, she has only been to disney about 10 times and has seen every amusement park near us several times. ;)

My daughter was that way at that age. Always wanted to go somewhere and do something (especially shopping). She has high energy and is very motivated. As she has gotten older, it has gotten easier because she is directing her energy on actvities and studies. She is now 16 years old and keeps very busy with homework and sports and youth group. Now that she has her license and access to a car (she uses an extra car that we have) it is alot easier. She wants to get a job this summer. So, I remember feeling that way you do, but it will get better with time.

I knw how you feel my DD is 11 also and she usually does not look for me personally to entertain her she is usually looking for me to let her friends come over or to take them somewhere ( of course it is never to a place that requires NO money) .
She doesnt usually ask me to buy her things she just tells me how she has NOTHING to wear!!! You think by now the people from CHild protection services would hav come here by now since she is NAked and Bored!!! Hahah.
I think that it is an awkward age though and they are not interested in Playing with toys but are not ready to just hang out with their friends. They are kinda torn as to where they belong. Are they Children or Teens.
Nothing tires a kid out more then when yo tell them to clean the house, do their homework , or read a book!!!

Funny I know a few years from now I will be looking for her to do something with me and She will not be interested!! So I try to do things with her when she is bored that do not include Money or driving somewhere.

My 10 year old son knows better than to come at me with the "I am so boooooooored" thing. When he does I say "cool, that means you can fill in the chore here "

He is good about keeping himself busy now.

My alternate answer is to offer to go through is toys that he is now bored with and tag them for a garage sale.:hyper:

The pleasant side effect of this is a kid that can go on all day road trips without saying "are we there yet?":earsgirl:

My 10 year old goddaughter is like that too. She doesn't have an original thought in her head and expects to be entertained 24 hours a day if she with me!!! Drives me insane!!!!! I wonder if it has something ot do with all the video games and computers and stuff? They don't have to be creative anymore because the stuff is all right there on the screen.

She too feels that her parents don't so a thing for her, despite the fact that she lives in a huge house with abulit in pool where she can have firends over all summer like it's a resort, has travelled everywhere, been to Disney million times etc etc etc.

Kids!

Can I join this club? I have a 13 yr old who has been this way for a couple of years now. I keep telling her she is so abused and really should call social services on me ;)

I'm hoping this is a stage she grows out of SOON

My 10yo daughter is at that age too! On Thurs not 2hrs after they were released from school for the summer those words came out of her mouth "I'm bored", we are leaving this Thurs for Fl for our cruise and WDW, you think she could find something to do between now and then - like chores or clean her room--aagghh! Now my 13yo daughter we think has recently lost her head up her backend, we can sit there and discuss things, get her packed for dance rehersal set out dance clothes and then she says what do I need to do or wear. I asked her Gen Surg Dr, who I work with, the other day if when he did her colon/rectal surgery last month did he see her head or did he maybe remove part of her brain by accident-lol. He got a kick out of that!

LOL! I feel your pain. My 11 year old son is the same way. He just walks over to me and looks at me. I say...what do you want? LOL! I swear, he and the 2 dogs are always following me! I love him to bits, but he needs to make friends in our new neighborhood...AND in school. Mom is not his playmate! My parents never "played" with us. We were chased outside every day. He was in the kitchen before bouncing a ball. I chased him outside with it...for all of 3 minutes.

We were in the food store before. On the way in AND out, he asked for a quarter. Nope. He doesn't get one every trip. He has to learn about hit or miss. LOL! Every time we go to a store, he expects something. Nope! I keep telling him that he needs to learn to go into a store and come out with nothing. Not ten minutes ago he said...how come there's NEVER anything in the refrigerator or freezer that I like? :earseek: We just went to the store! And I told him to get what he likes! :faint:

I'm finally getting to the last few boxes to unpack from the move. They are his boxes. How many times have I told him he should go unpack just one box. His response? I'm waiting for you so you can encourage me. I've unpacked 107 boxes...he can get 5! :faint:

I wish someone would feel my pain, I have 2 at this age! ROFL Maybe I'm just not remembering, but I don't recall ever being their age! hahahaha

Mine has started young, he is 7 and bored already. He had the WHOLE week off last week ( the first official week of summer vacation) and he is so bored already. He and my 4 year daughter are inseparable. She follows him around like a puppy dog, and when he is bored, she is bored too. They float between his room and the video games to my room and the computer, then come in the living room and want to watch a movie, then they'll go outside and go swimming, and play with the slip and slide then get bored again so come in and ask me to take them to the store. I don't know, my other 4 year old does just fine playing with toys all day, why can't the other 2 be like that?

so what did you do today to entertain her

I'm glad to see that I am not alone with this. I don't ever remember my parents entertaining me , I lived in an apartment ( no backyard, no swings , no bike ) , I had a few toys, no computer or TV in my room, but let me tell you, my neighbors and I had a blast playing, our imagination was always at work. I remember when they were building the subway system in our street and they closed off the street to the traffic for a whole year, oh man that was heaven! We had a pair or roller skates and we were the kings and queens of the world!
Now, it doesn't matter, they have 100 things to play with and they are bored.
Today I took them swimming the camelbeach, they had fun there. Tomorrow is going to see Shreck 2. When is someone going to do something nice for me?
