I am part of the problem with high resort rates

Any suggestion for finding a decent deal for Presidents’ Day week? I’m trying to add a day or 2 there in a deluxe to our trip right now and even on Tuesday or Wednesday I’m only seeing $500-600 rooms. I’ve been checking for a while now, they have not gone down. Hoping for an AP discount but also worried by the time they drop inventory will be gone so don’t want to wait much longer to at least have a room if we are doing it.

Editing to add, I’ve had differing success with Disney. With grand Floridian with any type of request I made there, like the ones you’re talking about, it was done in 10 mins or so. Definitely not the case at bay lake tower or poly while under refurb anyway. I’m not sure I would blanket Disney’s deluxe just like I wouldn’t universal. Like I said my universal experience is limited but wanting to change that :)
Sorry, no idea when President Day is. I‘m Canadian 😄. The thing is for short 2 day stays you pay a higher rate. A week or more you get the decent discounts. I’m staying at HR for a week, 1st week of Oct. but airlines changed flight on my and now coming in a day early. I couldn’t add a night to HR at a reasonable price so staying at cabana Bay for the night. Family suite for $175 AP rate.
Im paying under $300/night for HR but I have a group rate.

$250 is our max for moderate. We like moderates but if we’re gonna pay $300 then I might as well rent DVC. Our last 5 room costs:
AKV-Sav DVC rental April 2018 $250/nt
AoA Studio March 2019 $170/nt
OKW cash 1BR early Dec 2019 $300/nt
DVC rental split stay*-
BCV Studio Jan 2021 $280/nt (weekday)
Poly Studio Jan 2021 $380/nt (weekend)

Next: BWV Sept 2021 $144/nt DVC rental
WDW looking out for itself $👀
we’ll do the same 😆

*When booking we didn’t know Covid was coming. That’s the major obstacle most people have with DVC rental… lack of flexibility; locked in. But the trade off is usually worth it, especially if we can get a deluxe room for a value price. Plus DVC doesn’t charge for resort parking or extra adult heads. Those can really add up! Up to an extra $100/nt on the cash side.

I've always been so nervous to rent DVC. One day I'll gather the courage.

One of the reasons I always loved Disney was the level of service. Although there are still magical moments, the level of service that defined Disney - that I used to justify the higher prices - isn't there anymore.

I get pandemic, staffing issues, etc. But when I called down to request towels and garbage removal for my June trip (second day), I was told very rudely that it wasn't "my day" for housekeeping. And I was very nice, and not demanding. I didn't ask for a floor cleaning or new sheets, but for towels and for my trash to be emptied. And rude attitude? That was NEVER a Disney thing.

It's very sad to see a beautiful resort with garbage sitting outside everyone's door. That is not what I expect from a Motel 6, let along a Disney resort where I was paying almost $400/night. How far they great one has fallen.

I keep saying that Disney is out pricing what I want to pay. Yeah I keep booking at increased costs trip after trip. (in non-pandemic times we go three times a year two of those are eight day trips and usually a quick getaway in the winter for four days) ....
Take your kids to Yosemite,
Washington, D.C.,
& Southern California (with two days at the Disneyland Resort) instead.
Stay at hotels you can afford.

With what you spend on WDW hotels you could save up and take your kids to Paris with one day at the original Disneyland Paris park (skip the studios park there) & stay at the wonderful moderate Hotel Cheyenne for two nights.
And take your kids to Tokyo (& maybe Kyoto) with three days at Tokyo Disneyland/Disney Sea.
Go to London, New York City, & take a Disney Cruise to Alaska. Then return to me for further instructions.

There's a lot more to our world than Disney World.
The way I see it, Leigh, is that though the mountains divide and the oceans are wide, it's a small world after all.

The people I put the most blame for rising WDW prices are those who bought separate Tony’s Tickets on top of their party tickets 😆🤣
Tony’s Most Merriest Town Square Party at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

$99+tax each so you can get a better parade view after already paying over $100 each to get into the party, nevermind the expensive multi day ticket already bought and you need to make ropedrop tomorrow morning otherwise you’ll never get on SDD. And this was back in 2018. That’s when it really started hitting the fan, with upsells being pushed by engineering park crowds to be ratcheted up thru shorter park hours and staffing. 2018 is when the wind changed direction.

The people who attended should feel very ashamed right now. Look what you did! 😂

It is still too early for discounts for that time period. I would book something "cheaper " (and I use that term loosely...) and then upgrade if discounts come out.

That’s my problem, like a PP said I could rent dvc cheaper or at the price of the mods. I could book cabana bay at slightly cheaper. The problem with renting dvc or dvc in general is you need to plan ahead. As of right now I’m fully booked in dvc but wanted to save some of my points for next year and stay a day or 2 there.... not seeming anywhere near worth it at current rates.

Presidents’ Day this year is Feb 21st.

Put your trash can out in the hall before bed if it’s full. I guarantee they will take care of it promptly. :P

So, in June, we called and asked, and..."not our day".

We did put the bagged garbage outside (food containers from our on-site resort dinner. Almost every single room had garbage outside. Looked totally trashy. AND then the next day we got the resort guest text that they'd spotted a BEAR nearby...hmmmm, wonder why? I've tent camped my entire life, and all that garbage is total animal bait. Seems like a pretty avoidable problem to me.

Wow. Unimpressed!! I stayed at a crappy offsite hotel at DL last week and they still took our trash every day if we left it out.

Yeah I think if they’re not going to take garbage daily anymore then put out big receptacles that’s easy to put our tied up trash in. Not something we need to squish our bag thru a slot. And put them in convenient locations so people use them instead of leaving bags everywhere.

After I read your post and replied, the penny dropped. It’s holiday pricing so you will encounter high rates. I used to go to WDW every late Jan, early Feb and I recall I made sure dates wasn’t around the holiday!

I’m so confused on what to do on our few night stay late December. I have booked off site at Hilton BC and pop century.
It is cheaper for me to stay at Hilton for 5 nights then pop at 3 nights. We plan to only do a 2 day ticket.
I was set to just do pop stay on site for transportation ease- then they announced only deluxe can stay later at parks.
now I’m reading we may need to pay for fast passes ….
Crazy what a value costs now- my fav on-site choice is Poly but no way over Christmas for the prices!

I agree 100%. We have taken our kids to all of the places listed above except Tokyo and DC.
Wanna get a rebellious 17 yr old to hold your hand walking through the streets of Paris? Book a hotel with an amazing view of the Eiffel tower. We had a 4br penthouse apt with an incredible view for around $750/nt. (In summer 2017) He was literally jumping up and down yelling, “oh my God, Mom you did it! You really did it this time!”

32 year Disney loyalist here. Never visited another theme park at all, not even Gatorland. Disney has been my ONLY thing to do for all these years (4 generations of family).

BUT, this year we are booking to stay at Universal and for the first time in 20 years we are not doing a Disney Halloween party/event. I'm just not buying into the ridiculousness anymore. When staying off site AND renting a car saves enough money to pay for all of our food for the entire week with some left over, thats a red flag problem for me. Disney doesnt need or want my business. I'm too poor for them.
We just did Universal. First time after 15 years of Disney. We were really impressed. If we weren't already committed to our trip in December, we would probably choose to go to Universal over Disney. I hate saying that but we had a great time.

My DH thought I was crazy, I had a bag full of household items from tips from my Disfam.
Trash bags, ziplocks, power strips, window decorations and more...

We always stayed on site because we could fly in and did not have to worry about a car or paying uber fees. With all the changes Disney has made in the last year. They are making it easier to jump out of the bubble and try some really great properties near by and save hundreds.
