I own 200 points at SSR. I really like that resort, but would be open and would have the desire to stay at other resorts. I am fine though if the only location we ever stay at is SSR.

We do a lot of mini vacations throughout the year. We have been to DW 3 different times since the end of August. We don't always plan these out very far in advance (maybe 2 months, maybe less even). Am I going to have trouble if I plan to book DVC this way? Is DVC one that you have to really plan and book out far? I am just trying to get an idea of what I need to do for my vacations this next year.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on the time of year that you want to go. If you are looking at New Year's week, then you will have trouble but if you are looking at the less visited DVC times of the year, it generally won't be a problem as long as you are willing to stay where there is a room available.

It will depend a lot on when you want to go, how much advance notice you have, and how flexible you are. Obviously, certain peak times will be difficult on short notice, or even inside the seven-month window. In addition to New Years, Easter week is tough, the period between Thanksgiving and mid-December is very tough, and the Food & Wine Festival period is very tough at BCV and BWV.

You'll likely have the best luck at SSR and OKW, just because of the size of the resorts, but I wouldn't lock on to that. My daughter recently called about 60 days out and got a studio at VWL in mid-January. If she'd called me, I would have told her it was unlikely, but when she called MS they had availability at all resorts. So you never know.

I would never recommend someone buy DVC with the idea of using it for short-notice trips, but many report pretty good luck with short-notice ressies if they are flexible about where they stay.
