I have a 4 month old and we are staying at YC next week for a few days. I just found the most precious USSC (united states swim school) approved swim diaper for her!! It looks like a bikini bottom. I am worried if I use it, I will get "ugly looks"....that has happened before (with my youngest son).

My question is: Do you think I should put on some swimmies under the swim diaper? She actually has a "poop" schedule and there is NO WAY we would go to the pool until she has done her business. I just don't want to get ugly looks, that would hurt my feelings and I couldn't tell everyone that she IS in a rubber swim diaper (it just happens to be covered in cloth and looks cute)..lol. Also, we would ONLY get in the kiddie part of SAB.

I found it at Dillard's department store in my local Mall!! It was on clearance for 5.00 and it is the most precious thing you have ever seen!!! They have a website : http://www.healthyswimming.org
It is the wee wave swim diaper, it isn't their website but they put it on the package and it is CDC approved.
They are too cute!!

Last trip to the Poly, they would not let toddlers swim unless they has swim diapers. I think it makes sanitary sense. JMHO.

No, no....it doesn't look like a diaper. It LOOKS like a bikini bottom but people will KNOW my baby isn't potty trained. I don't want them to think I just have her in an unprotected swimsuit. That is why I was thinking of using a swimmie under the bottom. I don't want to, but I don't want anyone to think I am doing something wrong.

I would just use the cute swimsuit diaper.

I use a rubber swimsuit diaper for my little guy. Its not a swimmie, its a rubber swim bottom. Its great.

If anyone looked at me funny, well I was too busy having fun to care. I knew what he had on was perfectly fine and safe.

A swimmie isn't any better than a rubber swim diaper and seems a lot more comfortable to me.

Personally, with a baby that young, I'd use a swim diaper, BUT I'm not sure they come small enough. The reason I say that is that although you may think she's on a "schedule", you have to remember that she is a 4 month old baby. She will be on vacation, and things may not happen as routine as they do at home, plus at 4 months, if I remember correctly, the "movements" are sometimes sort of runny. Those vinyl swimmers won't really help to hold it all in as well. I wouldn't take a chance, and would go ahead and use a swim diaper underneath just in case. However, if the smallest swim diapers are too big, then it is best to just use the suit. Basically, whichever has a more snug fit, use that as a primary covering.

Also, I'm not going to try to be bossy, but you aren't supposed to put sunscreen on a 4 month old, and I was STRONGLY advised by my pedi for both of my sons to not put them in the pool until they are 6 months old (we live where we can swim year round). She said that the babies can get REALLY sick from ingesting pool water, even just a little bit that they get on their hands and then put hands in mouth, etc. I would just double check with your baby's pediatrician and make sure it's safe to take her in, especially in the hot florida sun. I don't recall there being any shady areas in the kiddie pool at the YC/BC. Ask if you can use sunscreen and WHAT BRAND and type to use. I know One Step Ahead sells chemical free sunscreen for babies, so that might be an option.

These are swim diapers but rubber and reusable. At least the ones I had were. They aren't swimmies though (the kind that looks like a diaper and is a one time use). They are made to look more like a swimsuit and they don't swell up with water like the swimmies do.

I wanted to point out that my rubber swim diapers that I used were very very snug. Snugger than the regular swimmies. I'll see if I can find a pic of my son in it or online.

Thank you for that info and you are so right. My Pedi did say the suncreen was alright on her face and torso but watch out for the arms and hands b/c she will try to eat it....lol. We plan on having her in the covered "cabana" that I bought from Target...and not for too long..maybe an hour at most.

People forget that 10 years ago you could not BUY those disposable swim diapers and the rubber or fabric-lines suits were the only thing available! My daughter is almost 13 and back in the day I would go to the Baby Superstore and get the little rubbery-lined bottoms. Truth is, if a yound child decides to "let fly," no bottom, disposable or not, is going to contain it all. Put whatever you think best on your little one, then watch for clues that she is "getting ready to blow!" THAT is the best way to keep the pool clean from accidents.

I would look straight at anyone who gives you looks, look at their kid (no matter the age) and say "Like your kid isn't peeing in the pool right now???" It would be especially funny if the kid was 16 or so!

You don't have to defend yourself about this! You beat your kid in front of me and we might just have to talk, but seeming like your kid is not protected from pooping in the pool. please! Are we that uptight?

I understand how gross it is to have a kid poop in the pool and that they have to close it etc... but if she poops, even with a plastic barrier, there will be germs freed.

I live by the mantra- don't drink pool water. Especially at Disney.

It is very nice that you are considerate. We will be at ASMu 9-22 to 9-29 and God help me, if my DD9 needs to pee, I can imagine she will be too lazy to leave the pool. My apologies! DS5 interestingly will get out, he refuses to look at his pee, muchless swim in it!

I would use what you have and not worry about the stares.

I was surprised that a previous poster mentioned keeping the baby out of the pool. I'm a native Floridian with a pool in my backyard and my babies have always gone into the pool. The doctor actually laughed when I asked if it was safe for my then 2 month old. So I wouldn't worry about it.

It sounds like you would be fine with what you bought. The only thing I would ask the pediatrician about would be if the chlorine in the pool was okay for the skin. I know my ped. said to keep mine out when they were that little. I know Disney is heavy on the chlorine, with good reason, as people have stated.
