I am looking for a hotel near wdw for $20-$60 a night

One thing to consider: if they are staying offsite and will be driving to the parks, you will need to figure in $10/day for parking. So, to compare prices, you would need to reduce that Pop price to $72.

I don't know if this helps or not, but I just saw that on hotelkingdom.com there is a resort called Seralago Resort Orlando that they are offering for $63.20/night for a standard room.

I found that Hotelmartusa.com has had the best price for the Comfort Suites Maingate East. We LOVE that hotel!

We stayed at the Nikki Bird Resort Motel - is it a Holiday Inn? - for $39 per night from Priceline and I thought it was fine. Right near the Entrance to WDW. Can probably find a discount w/o Priceline that would be close to that price as well. It's a huge place and they have a lot of rooms to give away.

i booked my hotel at expedia and got my room for $35 per night at the plams hotel and villas for june.. just shop around ^-^, I'm sure you'll stumble upon something awesome!

I just found the howard johnson on international drive for $43.60/night on hotelmartusa.com I don't know how good or bad it is, but there are a bunch of hotels in your price range on there. Check it out.

Over the last 18 years we have stayed on property/off.
The best is on.:cool1:
Convienant/safe and very close.
For all the savings* (not really) you have to deal with hotels way out of the way, dirty rooms (most of the time), especially in Kississimmee........years ago they were much better, seems like what I hear now, and I did a walk through last year with a cousin who wanted to stay at a bargain* place with a coupon, what a dump, way out there they still have mold.water, damage from the hurricane....how many years ago?! Sad!Who knows when??last time the bedcovers (bedspread was washed)! Just thinking about that one makes me CRINGE!YUCKS! I was in the travel industry for a long time and I really look at the room/property now were I stay!
Most of the people who bought or sold out there, horrible.
We even did a walk through at Old Town, description is right, old, moldy smelling and dirty, there aren't any good bargains. For the money you save you are going to get mold, water damage, etc etc it's just best to stay on property, they have undercover security as well as visual security as well as it's in the middle of everything.
Good luck in your search.
With the couple bucks you'll save=isn't worth the long traffic lines from 192 and everything else.
I know, we did it few times, (didn't learn our lessons) so just trying to pass on some experience.
Hope this helps!!! Don't let your hard earned money be wasted!

:hippie: peace!

Of course, only the OP will know what his/her own priorities are. But the OP did stress the budget issue, and I think it is important to respect that.

My family had a great time staying at the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird through Priceline. The savings were substantial at the time we went. Is it a bargain? Yes. It is a steal? No. Don't expect luxury accomodations. Expect a nice motel room and ultra convenient location. As a bonus we had very good housekeeping, and a very helpful, nice staff. The kids enjoyed the pool, and the grounds/landscaping/architecture are impressive in the style of Old Florida Tourism. YMMV.

On vacation, I know it is very important to me to keep the budget under contol, so I try to emphasize the ingredients that are essential to us at the time; If I am staying in an intensely urban environment, I know that a safe, nice place is going to cost some bucks. But if I am at a place where I do not plan on being in the room hardly at all in a more relaxed environment, I try not to spend money I don't really have in the first place!

Totally agree, I say tell them about the parking and then chip in the extra 10. a night for the POP and whalla problem solved. Their in a nice hotel, near you and ya'll are safe!!;)

This has converted over to one of those extended stay places where you pay extra for everything (soap, etc). I don't even think it's called Nikki Bird anymore. I remember posts on here when it happened. They changed overnight, and the guests didn't even know. Stay far, far away from here!

YOu are SO right. Thanks for alerting me to the changes at Nikki Bird.

Yeesh, what a nightmare!

It is no longer the Nikki Bird.. they were sold and are some sort of Home Suit Home or something like that. I will not try it until I know that they have corrected the problems that the Nikki Bird has had since Charley/Fran hit that area.. it was terrible and I got a refund thru the holiday inn...

Try Howard Johnson's Main Gate East. We have res. $40 a night Feb 14th on.
We have stayed at Motel 6 on 192 behind McDonalds about same price.

Good Luck:cool2:

I am considering staying offsite for our next trip- so thanks for all your posts here. We have stayed at POP and at AsMU. Let's be honest here- we had a wonderful time, but overall quality of the rooms at these resorts is comparable to a Days Inn or Ramada Inn. The rooms are very small, there are no interior corridors and the decor is... shall we say "bold". That being said- there is absolutely nothing wrong with either hotel, both are perfectly adequate in meeting your basic needs while on vacation. Same goes with a lot of off property hotels too. The major difference is in price, though. You can save anywhere from $10-$30 per night by staying off property. I really enjoyed both of our previous trips on property, but this time we are going to try to spend a little less. Somebody mentioned the parking fee of $10. Consider you spend at least $10 for two people on bagels and coffee in the morning, SO if you can find a nice off property at a good price with a free continental breakfast then this balances out. So if an extra 10-15 minutes commute to the parks in the morning is worth saving $100-$150 over the week of your vacation, then by all means. (that pays for your lunch too!)
I should start a new thread...
How to earn free breakfast and lunch for two on your next Disney vacation!:rotfl:
So now that we're finished trying to convince the OP that he really needs to just stay on property... can we hear from people who have had good experiences at offsite hotels under $60/ night?? I'm listeneing too.;)

We love Qualtiy Inn Maingate West in Kissimmee. You can get it for $46.00-$48.00 a night (depending on your travel dates) on onetravel.com
The only drawback is that it is a prepaid reservation. This hotel is clean, I feel safe there(gone many times just my little girls and me), and it includes a free continental breakfast.(toast, donuts, oatmeal, cereal, juice, milk, and coffee) It is only about 4 miles to Disney.:)

thanks for all of your replys, I am going to check into those for my family. However they have waited so late and close to our trip they probably have made a mistake and will not be able to get a room. I just called and checked to see if disney still had rooms available at pop just in case they decide to stay along with us. Well they don't have anything disney available per the cm.

hanks again

We usually stay at the Comfort Suites Maingate East in Kissimmee where the rates vary from $65 to $80 depending on which discounts are available at the time. The rooms are large and clean plus they have a free continental breakfast as well. You're less than 10 mins from any of the Disney parks if you have a rental car and if not they have free shuttle service to the parks.

Last year after reading all the dis boards comments about how much better it is to stay onsite we decided to try staying one week at our usual offsite hotel (at $79 per night) and one week at the Coronado Springs to see if staying onsite was worth the extra money. To make a long story short...it wasn't to us. We paid almost twice as much ($148 per night with the CAA discount) for a much smaller room that wasn't as clean. Yes you have free bus service throughout Disney property but we found by driving we could be back in our room sipping a cool drink while the other people leaving the park at the same time were still waiting under the hot sun to cram like sardines into the bus which would eventually get them back to their resort. Yes you also get your packages delivered to your room but if you just plan to do your shopping on the way out of the park at the end of the day you're not carrying your packages for that long at all and it really isn't any great inconvenience.

So for a hypothetical 7 day comparison based on our rates from last October, staying at Coronado Springs for 7 days with free bus service and no parking fees would cost $1036. Staying offsite at what we find to be a much nicer hotel with free breakfast cost us $560. Our rental car was an added cost of $120 per week, and 7 days of parking fees works out to $70 per week, which works out to a total cost of $750. The bottom line is a savings of $286 per week by staying offsite.

We're not saying anything against those who feel the need to stay onsite. To those people it may be worth the extra money, we're just saying it wasn't for us. Many people seem to think you're only "surrounded by Disney magic" if you're staying onsite. Personally we feel Disney magic is what you make for yourself. When we go back to our hotel with our souveniers and are planning our next day while the Top 7 Must-Sees playing on the tv in the background we feel the same thing.

The whole Disney experience means something different to each of us. What is best for one person may not be best for someone else. We all have different priorities and different tastes. The only way to really find out what works best for you is to keep an open mind and try different things each time you go.

We stayed one night at the Sheraton Safari last August. We paid $35 through priceline. Our room was spotless, and the beds were soooo comfy. They have a pool with a waterslide. Our room at Pop had dirt in the corners. We also stayed at the Nikki Bird in Mar 06 (before the change). We paid $53 a night for the KidSuite.

Now, I would prefer to stay on-site; at the Contemporary to be exact. However, I can't always have what I want! We are going again 3/30-4/8. Despite my OCDPD (obsessive compulsive Disney planning disorder), I still have not decided where to stay(adult ADD). Since we are a family of 5, our choices are limited. My top picks right now are:

Cypress Pointe- 2BR $99/night
Sheraton Safari- standard room, guessing $40/night through priceline
Buena Vista Suites $99/night
POR $185/night ($145 if any AP rooms are avail)
2 value rooms $240 ($119/2 or $79 AP; again, if avail)

After reading through this thread, it sounds like I need to add Comfort Suites to the list.

As for the under $60, Sheraton Safari, without a doubt!!!

CDN Friends Of Pooh......could not have said it better! You must have read my mind. We have also stayed on grounds for 1 night and compared it to the Comfort Suites and there is no comparison! The only thing I would add is that I didnt get lost trying to find my room at the Comfort Suites. haha. I got so confused at the Coronado Springs. We especially enjoy how big the rooms are at the Suites. I can truly say that I dont miss any Disney magic by staying there.

next trip:march12-19 at the comfort suites!
