I am horrified! WWYD?!

How do I correct my mail error, with the least amount of fallout?

  • Send it along in a new envelope readdressed with correct zipcode, and no one has to know!

  • Call the RSVP number, and admit in full humiliation that I opened it by mistake!

  • Pretend it never happened, and hide under a rock for being such a moron

Poll! SO I just got home from a very LONG day of work, I am exhausted and dragged myself in the door in the pouring rain. As I got in, I started opening the mail and was reading an invitation to a baby shower. I was thinking WHO THE HECK ARE THESE PEOPLE? SO I look at the envelope, and it was addressed to someone else, but with the same street address (number and street name) different city, but they had put my zip code by mistake. It is like oine of those weird one in a million mistakes where the zipcode they chose also happens to have a valid exact address. I am so embarrased that I opened it! I dont want the actual invitee to m iss the RSVP or worse think she had never been invited. WWYD? Poll:

Seal it up inside of another larger envelope and write that your child opened it by mistake and say sorry!

Or, if the shower is this weekend, can you try and find their number and call and explain?

I don't see why you would be so humiliated to call the RSVP number and tell them what happened??
That is the easierst thing to do, then they can be sure to get the correct zip code on it.
Besides, if you don't then you may continue to get mail from them.

Call them and don't be embarrassed. You are doing a kind thing by trying to fix their mistake.

I would call the RSVP number and say I opened it by mistake and I wanted to make sure that the person that it was intended for was notified. Otherwise we're going to see a thread here in a few weeks that say 'I can't believe I wasn't invited to a baby shower. I thought we were such good friends' and people will have to explain that maybe they were invited but the invitation got lost in the mail. :rotfl:

ITA! I'd be more humiliated if I actually showed up at the shower. :lmao: I'd just give them a call. I would feel bad if the person who was invited missed out or got their feelings hurt thinking they didn't get invited to the shower.

It seems to me the error is with he USPS:confused3

I'd just mark on the outside "addressee unknown" and let the USPS send it back to the sender (IF there's time) and, if not, I'd also call the RSVP # and tell them about the misaddressed envelope.

Horrified? I think you are overreacting, it was their mistake not yours. Just put it in an envelope and address it to the right address. Or if the envelope can be taped and has a return address, mark it return to sender. No big deal.

Why is it the post office's fault? The letter was addressed to her correct address. The person sending out the invite got the zip code wrong and it happened to match the OPs address.

I am not voting in your poll because you are blowing it way out of proportion.;)

I would tape it shut and return to sender or call if I felt like it. No harm, no foul.

I often just open up my mail without really looking at the address. Just call the RSVP number and honestly explain what happened, then offer to pop it back in the mail in a new envelope with the correct address. I'm sure they willl be grateful that you took the time to fix the error!

First of all I wouldnt' be embarassed in the least- it was an honest mistake. Second I would be thankful that I really wasn't invited to the baby shower! :rolleyes1

The PO works from zip code and then goes to the address AFTERWARDS, not from the address to the zip.

It's a mistake. If this horrifies you, life will kick you in the butt...:surfweb:

::yes::::yes::::yes:: popcorn::

I'd just send it on with a little note! I'm sure they will appreciate it, and it will let the recipients know that the senders need to know the zip code of their friends/relatives.

I'm sure there are many of us (I know I've done it) who have figured "if it's in my mail, it's addressed to me) and at least partially opened something that wasn't ours before. No reason to be horrified.

It's not that big of a deal. Just put the invitation in its original envelope in another envelope and mail it to the right address. Include a note that says "sorry, came to my address and I opened it without checking the envelope".

Then forget about it.

Whatever you do, please make sure the invitation gets to the intended person. Why not just remail it right away in a new envelope? That's so easy.

That's what I would do but get it in the mail tomorrow.

(don't worry it happens;))
