I have cordless phones downstairs and now I am not getting any dial tone. I checked out everything... connections, settings, jacks, other phones to make sure they are on their receiver, etc. Nothing yet. I have digital phone service thru our cable company and I called their service dept. and they confirmed everything is okay on the outside of our house. I have a tech coming morning, but I am wondering if this has happened to anyone and hoping it's a simple thing I am overlooking. I really want to to fix it myself if it's something simple.

We do have an alarm system which works and I called them, too.

Anyone? :worried:

Did you just get DSL or anything? If so, is there a filter on that phone line?

Did you unplug everything and plug it back up just incase something was a little loose?

Only other thing I know is to plug another phone into that jack to see if it will work.

Good luck!

Do any of your phones have a dial tone?
Do you have a 'box' outside where the line comes in? If so, you can open this box and check for yourself if the problem is 'yours' or 'theirs'. There is a plug in, inside the box for a phone. Take a corded phone out there and plug it in. If you have dial tone out there at the box, the problem is INSIDE your house (and YOUR problem), if there is NO dial tone, it is the phone companies problem somewhere....
I have this trouble ALL the time. We live in the country, the last house in line of only 6 houses. VERY old line and the phone company does not want to replace it. SO, whenever there is a break in the line somewhere, we loose service. I know how to check by heart ;)
PS it has ALWAYS been the phone company's fault here.....
Do you have the 'insurance' through your company so they will not charge you if they do come and make a service call and find that it is YOUR problem?

Did you test any of the other jacks in the house? If the alarm system is working then it could be the phone or the jack.

Sometimes our phones get an overload from electric line or something and we lose our dial tone. When this happens, we have to unplug all of the phones from the electrical outlets and phone jacks. We leave everything unplugged for about 15 minutes and then plug them back in and the phones work! You may want to try that.

Do you have any spare phone cables? You know the ones that go from the wall to the phone, try a different one on a phone. I have often had problems with those.

Thanks, everyone... and yes, I paid my bill - I even double checked my account online. lol

I will see the tech today and luckily my dh is around to assist.... I drive myself crazy sometimes trying to repair things myself on my own. :)

Did you try unplugging all the phones in the house and plugging them back in like others have suggested? We have had to do this a couple times over the years.

That's what I do and it works.

Well, the tech came and I have phone service now. :) I have digital phone service with our cable company (Cox) and it only took them about 40 minutes.

It was my alarm system that apparently "set" our phone to no dial tone because our system functions that way. I am about to call our alarm system company, but thanks so much for helping! I must have done everything 4 or 5 times and I learned more than I ever wanted to know about cordless phones. lol
