I can't believe it! OK it is only a week,but I don't care!

My MIL and FIL are always saying your life is tough a lot of the time with Mattie,we wish we could do something to support you.On the odd occasion I ask for my MIL to have Mattie though, she will only have him with lots of notice and if it complately fits in with her plans,or she'll just say no it isn't convenient, you get the drift!

They must have been doing some thinking as when we returned from holiday and Terry told them that quite a lot of the holiday wasn't what it should be as Matt was going through a 'bad patch' (he has been amazingly good for 2 weeks now so I can't quite remember how the bad times are,bit like childbirth:wink ) They said why don't you and Karen go away for a week, and (I am gobsmacked given their inpout the last 20 years) they would have Matt for a week or maybe them have Matt half the week and my dad the other half:D

It has to be in school holiday time because of Matt (and me) so we picked Feb.I want to go somewhere warm,so Canary Islands, Nah don't want to just lie on a beach for a week.So I suggested you know where! We had enough Virgin miles to book 2 PE seats that I was going to use for next October. But that works out better in a way to use them now as I have 4 deposits on California flights and I would lose 2 deposits if I booked 2 flights myself. So I'll stick with changing the Cal flights to Orlando ones and have used my Virgin miles now.

In 20 years we have only been to NY for 3 nights away from the kids.I can't believe we are going to Orlando ON OUR OWN! I keep thinking of all the things we can do that you can't do when you go as a family.I want to go to PI,Citywalk in the evening, the duelling piano place at the Boardwalk, and we can DRINK and not have to be responsible for anyone:wink

I need to book accomodation and car hire now.The villas I was looking at are all booked for Feb then I read on a post that it is Presidents week/weekend,so I guess when we go on the Friday 13th it is a bank holiday weekend?? Is it busy all week?

I'm so happy today. The best thing is Mattie was really encouraging us to go which was really sweet of him as if he'd been really upset we wouldn't have gone for it:crazy:

Way to go Karen

I am so pleased for you..:Pinkbounc

Karen,

We've been twice now without the kids and our next trip is also without them. You will have a fantastic time - like you say there are so many things you can do differently.

I've been reading quite a bit recently about crowds around holidays as we'll be there next year on 4 July. From what I can gather I think you will find both the week leading up to President's weekend and the week after quite busy. We're quite looking forward to it, though. We tend to go during quieter times with shorter park opening hours, so it will make a change. If it's hell, we'll know not to do it again! Do you normally get APs? Being able to pop into the parks for a few hours makes the crowds more bearable. If you haven't done it before, try going to MK during the morning and then getting the monorail to Kona Cafe at the Poly, or the launch to Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL for lunch.

Karen that's WONDERFUL :) :) :) !!! As you know, I've been on a childfree week and had a BALL!!

What fantastic news for you. I love my two kids dearly but it is wonderful when you can have an adult only break. Enjoy:D

Thanks everyone for your advice and good wishes.I still feel really excited:crazy:

Deb,

It will be interesting having only ever been in October before,to compare how things are.

I know that you will have a fantastic time. WDW is a fab place for adults to have fun!

I wonder if it might be worth you considering staying on site at either Disney or Universal? If you are planning to make the most of the nighttime entertainment then it would save you a bit in taxi's and allow you both to have a drink and relax. - just a thought.
Also, given that you might want to go into the parks and just do a couple of rides and then do something else rather than spend the whole day there, staying on site makes to easy to hop into a park for as little as an hour, without the hassle of parking and walking to the parks.

Activities that you might want to try on this 'adult' trip..........
a treatment at one of the WDW hotel spas?
A disney mini golf tournament - winner of the most matches gets to choose the last night's entertainment!
Champagne balloon ride
Richard Petty
A behind the scenes tour
Strolling around the quieter areas of parks and hotels and taking time out to watch the world go by.
Hiring a water sprite
Horse riding at WL
SHOPPING!
Romantic Firework gazing from the quiet Poly beach (or in the middle of a crowd in Epcot/MK)

Enjoy yourself and spoil yourself.

Take care

Sam,Those are great ideas thanks:)

I did think of the benefit of staying onsite, even for a couple of nights to not to have to use cabs for the evening things like Pleasure Island and Citywalk, but when I suggested this to DH he is adamant he doesn't like staying in hotels.I will book a villa but am looking for one that isn't too expensive as it's just the 2 of us I won't need to be as fussy as I am when I chose one for the family holiday.

:Pinkbounc What a fantastic treat!

I hope you have a wonderful time. :)
