There is an older couple (mid-sixties) that have a place next to ours here at the lake.. Specifically their place is right next to our extra lot where my DD and her DH have their travel trailer set up..

These people tend to be on the compulsive side.. Everything surrounding their place is perfect - not even one blade of grass longer than the next..

They also have their beach rights in the same area as ours.. Only one other beach is between ours and theirs.. Last year they took it upon themselves to clean the entire area down there (not just their own) - raking, cutting down trees, etc. At the time, they cut down several trees on OUR beach and although I wasn't thrilled, I let it pass as I really prefer to keep a "good neighbor" policy to the best of my ability..

Well - between last year and this year they have REALLY been trying my patience.. On at least two occasions I spotted them on my property, standing right behind my DD's trailer, snooping around at who knows what.. Still, I didn't say anything - I figured as long as they didn't touch anything there really wasn't any harm done..

Today was the LAST straw though.. I was walking down to my beach and what do I see but two of MY lounge chairs alongside the road with a FREE sign on them!!!!!!!!! As I mentioned previously, these people are terribly compulsive about things (their only child - who is an adult now - has suffered with OCD since he was very little) and I think the reason they took the chairs off of my beach and put them by the side of the road was because they had a bit of rust on them.. To me the rust is no big deal - I have terry cloth lounge covers I use when I want to sit on them.. (Actually, I used to keep them on a picnic table down there last year - covered with a tarp so they wouldn't rust - UNTIL these folks decided to cut up the picnic table and BURN it because one of the benches had a section that needed to be replaced..)

Well - I decided to take a walk on the beach while I mulled over just what I should or shouldn't do and who do I run into? One half of this couple - the male.. I was so angry that I just walked right up to him and let him have it.. I TRIED to be adult about it but believe me, I was fuming..

So - what I said was, "Joe - did you take those lounge chairs off of my beach and put them up on the road with a FREE sign on them?" When he finally stammered out a "yes" I then went on to say, "Well I would really appreciate it if you would put them back and from now on please don't touch ANYTHING on my property.. All of this is really getting to be a bit much.." At that point he stammered out, "Well I just thought you didn't want them anymore.." to which I replied, "I have basically been here ALL summer.. Couldn't you have at least ASKED??" He started to stammer again and I just waved him away with my hand and said, "Put the chairs back!" And with that I stomped away..

I hate the idea of being on the outs with any of my neighbors - and I have bent over backwards to ignore MANY of the things they have done - but how much am I supposed to tolerate? Was I wrong in calling him on it? And HOW am I supposed to deal with these people from now on???

Sorry about the rambling but I really AM ticked off!!!

No, you are absolutely NOT over-reacting. You're tolerating much, much, MUCH more than I would. Them cutting down anything on my property would have had me pounding on their door demanding the never set foot on my property again.

You weren't wrong with telling him off. What they are doing is telling you nonverbally how to live. Not to mention that taking the chairs was stealing. I hope he listens and tells his wife. Do you own the ertra lot?

I love it! They deserved it. You did good. You didn't do anything outragous, you just told him how you felt. That was totally ridiculous of them.

I would have been LIVID if my RELATIVE did that, much less a virtual stranger!!!

The unmitigated GALL of those people!!!

Oh my goodness! I think you handled it extremely well!

C Ann, you remind me of a certain donkey with a rain cloud that follows him around. Doesn't anything good happen to you?

C. ANN.................after the summer that you've had up there, have you ever thought of MOVING to a "different" lake??  :p :p :p

JohnTBap - I hear you loud and clear.. LOL

But yes - good stuff DOES happen to me - shock! My DH is still alive, my DD is awesome, I have the BEST son-in-law in the world, and my little granddaughter is the love of my life.. So - in the grand scheme of things, I don't really have it so bad.. :)

But these neighbors - yikes!!! Anyone know how I can tone them down a bit - or at the very least, help them get over their compulsive behavior?? I really DON'T like being on the outs with anyone.. I'm a Libra - guess that says it all.. :)

Don't feel bad for your reaction for a second. They're the ones who should feel bad. I'm like you in that I probably wouldn't have said anything until they tried to give away your chairs. That's just completely rediculous. I can't believe that anyone would think that was okay. I'm sure they just thought you wouldn't say anything. I think you did a good thing by speaking up for yourself.

kejoda - yes, I own the other lot..

EROS my dear friend.. NO WAY am I leaving this lake.. Been coming here every summer since I was 2 years old and just cause things get a little tough now and then there's not a chance in ---- that I'm going to turn tail and run.. I LOVE it here - bad vibes and all.. :) Besides, if JohnTBap has it right I would just BRING all the bad luck WITH me.. LOL :)

I think you were well within your right to lose your temper. Don't worry about making bad relations with the neighbors. They were going to give away your chairs. Do you think they were worried about making bad relations with you?????

browneyes - Oh my gosh! I didn't even notice that!! Good one.. :)

How about a few signs that say "No tresspassing or I will sick JasonLyons and Eros on you"?;) :p

C.Ann, you handled that remarkably well.. I would have done something like "accidentally" sprayed round-up on their flower beds....oopss...."I didn't think you wanted those...."

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh I like your new tag too :teeth:

C.Ann, I swear without repeating too much of what others have said, you sure handled that so much better than I would have... I would have been livid! Sorry you have such pain in the neck neighbors.

I don't blame you one bit! Sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself. They should feel lucky that you haven't pressed any charges against them!

Love the new tag!!!

I give you credit for being as patient as you were!!!

I'd have blown up long before!!!!! I'm actually typing kinda hard I'm so frusterated for you!!!!
