I am doing so bad right now. It's like I just don't care anymore... but I DO! Does this make any sense? I get so frustrated with my self. I have cheated a few times, and now I feel like "blah". My weight is up a few pounds, and I think some of it is water weight, cause I feel a bit bloated, and my rings don't move (usually they come off easy.) I am fighting a cold, and just feel so unmotivated.

I am considering switching from Atkins to SBD, and was wondering if I should go through the phase 1, or should I just switch to phase 2. (Part of my reason for switching is that I am getting very bored with what I eat, and am not one to try a lot of new things. Plus I miss oatmeal and fruit.)

Actually I am thinking of taking a break altogether for a few weeks. Does that make me a terrible person?

Can you tell I am feeling rotten? Sigh... sorry to dump on you all.

no, taking a break doesn't make you a terrible person. Just don't stay off too long or it will be much harder to motivate yourself to start back up again. Not only that, but if yo feel bad now, you'll feel worse if you gain back everything you've lost.

Now as far as SBD goes, the induction phase is a lot like Atkins intoduction. If you are tired on Atkins, then starting SBD will be the same. Now, going to phase 2 is probably o.k. You will lose more slowly because of the added carbs, but if you need variety, then SBD is a good diet to be on.

Good luck and don't give up

I'm on SBD but sometimes I stray towards Atkins
I've read on the boards lots of others bounce back and forth too
I think you have to tweek these plans until its right for you

Losing weight no matter how you do it is hard
so hang in there and keep coming back for support

My suggestion is simply this...if you go off your plan for a few weeks, be very careful! It's quite easy to forget all your hard work when driving by McDonald's or Hardees when you need something quick and easy. I still eat Mickey D's, but I'll have nuggets instead of the burger or I'll just really stick to the plan and have one of their wonderful salads. I LOVE my french fries and I'm not going to stop eating them! However, because I know what eating them all the time every day of the week did to me before, I know how to back off and just say no for a week or two at a time. I try to increase my walking by a day also when I do put those french fries back into my diet. As a matter of fact, when I'm done responding to your post, I'm going for my walk. :teeth: :hyper:
I know exactly how rotten you feel, I gained a pound or so on my vacation back home, but I sat down and figured the 3 pounds I gained was over a 3 week period. It had been that long since I weighed myself, so I guess I can't complain much. I was just so disappointed because I finally got to see the 198 mark and got right back up to 201. NO MORE 200s!!! I want to see the 190s again!
So I got off my tushie and started walking again and drinking a tad bit more water. I just don't drink enough and I know that will make a big difference when I do drink more.
Just stop beating yourself up and do what works for you. I've stuck to Atkins because it works for me. I miss my fruit too, but treat myself to it once a week on the salad bar when I work at Ruby Tuesdays. Those carbs and sugars aren't going to hurt me near as much as the manmade carbs and sugars!
YOU'LL BE FINE! HANG IN THERE!! :flower3: :daisy: This IS NOT a diet we're on, it's a way of life and that takes a lot of work. Be strong and keep us posted, we're here for you!

I like the SB diet because it give you more flexability than atkins, you do not feel so deprived.
If you feel that going through phase 1, will make you feel like you are back on atkins, then just modify it a bit, you will not lose as fast, but you will still lose.
And....taking a break from dieting does not make you a terrible person, you do what is right for you.

I should clarify something, when I said I was going to take a break, I meant from Atkins, not from eating healthy. I used to do the "Weigh Down Diet" (where you only eat when you are hungry) and did very well with that... except I stopped being aware of when I was no longer hungry. Anyway, I plan to do that again, and to be very aware of what I am eating. I also plan to continue to exercise and to drink my water. I don't mean I am going to eat everything that comes my way, I just meant I want to be able to eat a bit differently. The more I think about it, the more I think I am just bored. Also, feeling ill today didn't help. I bet I will feel better tomorrow, and be more motivated. Thanks for all your replies.
As far as doing the SBD (or going back on Atkins 100%, whichever I decide) I will be starting at the beginning. I know that it will be the right thing to do.
Headed out for a walk right now, and I did drink all my water today!
Thanks, :grouphug:

Jeanne - I know I'm a little late responding and you've gotten some wonderful advice.

I hope you will join us on the Beach! I am one that kind of goes back and forth between SBD and Atkins and I love everything I eat. One thing that keeps me from getting board is trying new recipes (and trying on different clothes)! Anyway, here's a link to to a lady named Linda's recipe site. She's on Atkins but her recipes sound delicious! I'll be trying some soon. You can always tweak them a bit for SBD. Here's the link: Linda's Recipes

Lisa, thanks for the link. I will checking out your journal, as well as the others who are doing sbd and Atkins. I just realized that may give me some ideas for new things to try.

When you say you go back and forth between the two, what do you mean? I am interested in that answer, as that may end up being what Dh and I do.
