I am disappointed with so many changes at Hollywood Studios

My DH said there was something in Hollywood Studios that was preventing them from moving forward with either construction or one of the lands because the projection screen @ Sci-Fi Dine in Theatre was part of - or attached - to one of the buildings that was supposed to be torn down. I shamefully admit I was only half paying attention to what he was saying though.
That really doesn't make a lot of sense. First, Streets is gone. Second, if there is a shared wall it would be easy to leave it and build around it, include it in the new design.

All of Streets of America is torn down except one facade that is part of a structural wall on Sci-Fi building. Speculation is that that facade will simply be changed to blend in with Star Wars land.

It's funny how everyone is different. Our favourite things about HS were the Backlot tour, Honey I shrunk the kids and the Streets of America. The Great Movie Ride is also a favourite, but it sounds like even it will be going. So, I guess it all depends on what you liked about HS. Getting rid of so much nostalgia all at once was certainly a turn off for our family. Kinda like if all at once they axed Splash Mountain, Carousal of Progress and the People mover from Magic Kingdom. It just wouldn't be the same!

Can't disagree at all with you in that it may have been a favorite of yours. I liked Backlot Tour also, but it wasn't very popular. Nor were Streets of America or Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Doesn't mean you shouldn't have liked them or be sad they're gone. They were definitely old school Hollywood Studios, but from a usage perspective, they just weren't popular.

I get it. I liked Streets of America. I LOVED the Honey I Shrunk The Kids playground, but most kids today probably haven't even seen the movie. Things have to change, but I hope they make it much better soon!

I always feel turned around in HS, like I have no sense of direction, I think because things I remember are gone and then I get all confused. ;)

HS is my least favorite park, although they have my favorite ride -- RnR! I just wish they would make the park itself nicer and more detailed. They also need something in the center to replace the Mickey hat.

I feel like all the parks have their own identity, except HS, which is just going through a bit of an identity crisis.

Hollywood Blvd is themed as the old Hollywood of the 40s and 50s. The Chinese Theater blends beautifully with that theme, the Hat most certainly did not. I hope that once SWLand is finished they move the SW shows that way so once again we have an unobstructed view of the Chinese Theater

You're right -- The Chinese Theater blends in! Nothing stands out. There is nothing for people to take pictures of or in front of that says, we visited Hollywood Studios!! Epcot has the ball, MK the castle, AK the tree. Something is missing from HW -- not necessarily the hat -- but something!

It's weird. Theme wise, I hate HS. But the case can be made that three of the best rides are in that park. TOT and Aerosmithes ride are thrill rides that the park desperately needed. Add toy story, and it's kind of a must park to go check out

exactly how I feel. Love it, hate it. ;)

I'm not sure what doesn't make sense?? Two other posters confirmed a wall is still up because that wall is part of the sci-fi dine-in theater??

You said something was preventing them from removing Streets of America and moving forward with construction,. I said that it (it = the halting of construction) doesn't make sense because Streets is torn down and if one wall was shared they'd just leave that wall and include it in the new construction. Not halt construction. Which seem to be exactly what another poster has is happening.

Could be DH was watching an older podcast where they were still trying to figure out how to get around it? I dont know. i dont watch podcasts and when DH starts talking about them, I'm usually not paying attention.

The whole Sci Fi discussion is interesting to me, if you look at aerial maps of the Sci Fi you can see that the back of the restaurant was never "on stage" streets of America it was backstage areas, so saying that they have to leave parts of Streets because of Sci Fi is nonsensical to me. Maybe a portion of the backstage area of Sci Fi hs to stay but the rest of that area has been demolished.
As for the area behind Muppets Courtyard, assuming that's we are talking about the old San Francisco street I am not sure. I can tell you that the area where Phineas Ferb Lightning and Mater used to meet, along with the Premiere theater has been demolished as well

That's why the new DHS icon is ToT. I'm sure that if you take a picture on Hollywood Blvd with the Chinese Theater behind you or on Sunset Blvd with ToT behind people will know you were at DHS

I do think the construction makes the park feel more crowded, but there honestly aren't many attractions "missing" that we used to do. The Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area was missed by my daughter, and I hope they include a play area in the new design, but in all honesty...that play area was not great. Too many places for kids to get out of sight, no place for adults to sit so everyone crowded around the exit and on at least two occasions while we were there, a child was hurt in that netting thing (once, they even brought in a stretcher and wheeled her out with what looked like a broken arm or wrist). I'm excited for the new areas. If Toy Story Land is something like what they have at Disneyland Paris, that will be really fun. Of course, Star Wars Land will be amazing. Construction bites, but it sort of has to happen. I am sorry for those who really loved the particular attractions that are gone. I still miss 20,000 Leagues!

The thing I see with the Studios is simply trying to keep up with the times now. Yes, the Animation Studio is gone and has been for a while but most animated films are not hand drawn anymore so how to find artists that do that? We went through while the focus was on computer generated things and were bored. CGI is the way to go now and also looking back at how series were or are being done. So, it makes sense to add Star Wars and Toy Story - those franchises can last a long time and should. So, while we can sit back and grump about how things used to be, it makes more sense to look forward to how things will be.

Hollywood Studios and Epcot have both become parks that look and feel nothing like the parks as they were originally conceived and implemented. And, with both, I preferred them the way that they were designed. But I am still able to enjoy them. Like everything else in life - things change, and even end. It is what makes life so precious. I am glad that I got to experience these parks as they were, but I am also glad that I continue to get to experience them as they have changed. Hopefully that will continue for decades to come.

The parks that I visit in 20 years will probably look and feel very different than they do today. My kids will be the ones complaining about what the parks "used to feel like", and feel nostalgic for all of the rides that are new today but will be gone by then. Time marches on.

From the last aerial images I saw, there look to be three leftovers from Streets of America. One is the hang-on to Sci-Fi Dine-In. Other posters have said that's staying. I'm not sure if it will be updated in any way, but if you take it down, you'll be looking at the side of the Dine-In from Muppets Courtyard--not terribly flattering.

There looks like a small facade near the southeast corner of the Muppet theater. I'm guessing that's still there as another sight line consideration. No idea if that's staying or just a temporary measure to block construction viewing.

Another facade is on the southwest corner of the Great Movie Ride building at the end of Pixar Place. I'm not sure if that was really a part of Streets, but it has the look. Everything else was gone.

On this pic Sci Fi is all the way on your left. There's only that false facade there. At the end of Pixar there's nothing left behind that wall.
