I'm very anxious for that new test that they're working on to become available on a routine basis.. It has something to do with each persons individual genetic makeup and will be able to tell the doctors ahead of time what medications will be a problem.. I've probably flushed about $20,000 worth of medications down the toilet over the years - LOL.. Now I always ask for samples if it's something I've never had before and they have them available..
Me too! I will pay whatever they want for that test!! I did hear, though, that the test was really not to see *which* meds you can take, but how much you can tolerate. They've known for a long time that there are three types of medicine metabolizers: ultra-metabolizers who break down meds fast and rarely get side effects (and often don't get a good cure either), normal metabolizers (those whose body does what is expected with the meds); and then the poor metabolizers (their liver breaks down meds so slowly that the normal dosage amount hangs around too longs and causes horrid side effects). I'm pretty sure that I am a "poor" metabolizer because I also have problems with alcohol and not being able to tolerate it well.
Apparently, once they do this test, the doctors will be able to "tweak" your dosage based on how you metabolize.
Oh, and an
UPDATE : My doctor called back and also felt that the heart rate increase why "strange" and definitely much higher than my normal tachycardia. So, she is switching me to Amoxicillan. Now, I haven't taken Amoxicillan in years....
