I am a biker

I have NEVER felt unsafe at ANY TIME that I was amongst bikers- even the so-called bad ones (I have been places with the Warlocks, Pagans, and a local cycle "gang" The Wheels of Soul) actually, I feel safer at a biker get-together than I do walking down the street with self-proclaimed, normal people!

My cousin was in Wheels of Soul. He was killed in a motorcycle accident one night. He was such a sweet heart and very much loved by all.
Me and DH were at a bike show in AC and a Pagan walked in and was quickly escorted out by police. I don't know if he did anything wrong.

Sorry to hear about your cousin :guilty:

I remember when I was a little girl (long time ago!) the Wheels of Soul would hang out at a house (or something- I vaguely remember some kind of bldg) down the street from my house. Not sure where you are from- but I grew up in Atco. I remember my dad being freinds with a WOS guy named Bear and a few others.

As far as the police go- sometimes I think they make a situation worse. I understand they need to be there "just in case" but sometimes they are a bit "gung ho" when they see the gang colors/vests.

Have you ever been to Atco Raceway for the Harley day. I live right down the street and I have NEVER been there. I know there are always tons of cops for that day at the Raceway! Maybe this year we will go.

My cousin lived in Berlin. I grew up in Clementon.
I didn't know Atco Raceway has a Harley day. I just told my DH and he asked me when. I told him I'd ask you. My dad goes to the raceway with my uncle almost every weekend.

Interesting, since my parents live right down the street from Atco in Shamong. I've raced there many times myself back when I had my Mustang. I lived my first 29 years in NJ (I'm 35).

My dh play in a band ,that is in bars all the time. and i can tell you . I was treated more like a lady in a bar full of biker " than any other bars.

Shamelessly bumping this thread because it is really important to me that this be read and spread.

Thanks for sharing that...
My dad and i were on his bike the other day and so many people just cut in front of us--it was horrible..

This weekend ,we are going to a fundraiser bike ride, im looking forward to it!

I see you are from Jersey- whatabouts is the fundraiser???

I am from the South Jersey area.

DH and I went with about 10 other bikes 2 weekends ago. From South Jersey we rode into Delaware- rode out into Delaware for 2 hours (it was BEAUTIFUL! Cornfields and water everywhere!) Had ressies for all the bikes to get onto the Cape May ferry- the ferry ride took about an hour and a half, got off in Cape May- we all rode over to the Lobster House for dinner and then we all took the "long way home"- I would have to say- that was about one of THE BEST rides we have taken in our 6 years of riding. The weather was PERFECT! the ferry ride was great- got to see tons of dolphins riding alongside of the ferry-

Cant wait to get the call from the guys to do a ride to Lancaster PA! we have done that before- that is also a great ride!

mojophone- thanks for the good read and starting this thread- the only problem is- hopefully the people who drive CARS will check it out and be a bit more careful! :goodvibes

As for bikers, I try to give them all the curteousy in the world. On and off the road.

Thank you, my DH is a biker, and because of one of those people who had to be in his lane, he had to come off his bike to survive. Everything worked out fine, but I was scared too death when I first heard what happened.

SORRY! :guilty:

I wanted to check the Raceway schedule to see when the day was- I couldnt find it so I called-- I found out they have not had it for a couple of years! :guilty: I know it was a big thing for all the cops in Atco to be there b/c they expected trouble all of the time. So maybe the township just had them stop it?? THAT STINKS!

Does your dad go to Wildwood for the HOG rally?? Now THAT is fun!

How about the Toys for Tots run in Philly?

We used to go too. I just turned 42. We had some friends that would race. I started dating DH when I was young- and I was always hanging out with "the guys" I was the only girl that would smell of "tire burnout!" AND KNEW HOW TO DO ONE! :rotfl2:

I used to have a Mustang GT and a Buick Grand National--- We would all go over to Philly @ Front street to watch the racing YEARS ago-- when it was fun and everyone would have old corvettes, camaros, firebirds and fix them up- put tubs and centerlines on them, make them real loud. Sometimes trailer them in. NOW all you have are those little Hondas etc that sound like wind up toys! Sure they go fast- but they are NOTHING to look at! :guilty:

WOW! Sorry to hear that. :guilty:

Sometimes when people do stupid things I just want DH to get close enough to them when they stop so that I can kick the car! :rotfl2: But I know you have to be careful- some people would probably chase after you and run you down. BUT most of "the idiots drivers" are too oblivious to know what in the world just happened. But I like to be one of those people that tell them exactly what they just did wrong! DH is not too happy when I do that-- BUT HEY- if you dont say something- how will they even know!? :confused3

Maddhatir, Thanks for helping to keep this thread alive for more and more people to read and yeah Here's to hoping that the cagers who read this will pay more attention because when they disobey a law like "right of way" it can get us killed so much easier than anyone else out there on the roads but they don't get charged with things like "involuntary vehicular homicide", they only get charged with maybe the law they broke that got us killed. :confused3

and to help keep the thread alive. :thumbsup2

Just look at this adorable face and tell me how people can think he's scary. This is a very rare pic of him actually smiling. He usually won't smile for a pic. (I was going to post a pic on that other thread MH, but it was closed before I had a chance to)

Actually, we have met a lot of cool bikers. DH and I do our fair amount of car trips and we will always run into some bikers. They happen to be some of the coolest and nicest people we meet.

I saw yay for bikers.

I have learned not to judge anyone by appearances only. My husband has crazy ugly god awful tattoos on his arms and people look at him like he is satan. When in fact he is kind and gentle. When our daughters were babies he went to work third shift every night and in the morning he came home and took care of his babies while i had to go to work, hardly sleeping at all. He never tried to get out of changing a diaper. He is a pro at doing their ponytails and braids and making school lunches. He has always be there for my girls, but no one sees that, they look at the artwork on his body and pass judgement.

I love for my children to see the differences in people. That is what makes the world unique. I want them to grow up without prejudice or stereotypes.

We watch the parade of bikes that go by that are riding in good cause. I love how compassionate bikers are to children. They honk their horns, they have let my children sit on the back amd have entertained their questions about the bikes and tattoos.

Almost two weekends ago, someone i knew from my gym was killed in a motorcycle accident. It was a horrific, gruesome, senseless tragedy. He was a good person. He was a someone's child, someone's spouse, someone's parent and a someone's friend. Just like the rest of us.

I am very surprised there are not more "Disney Bikers" on the DIS boards! I am going to put my green mickey head on my helmet somehow. SOMEBODY on these boards has to see me crusin' around town......or another state sometimes!

And thinking about how people judging bikers- what is funny is, there are so many Christian riding groups out there that own Harleys-- I am sure most people have no idea of this. Well, unless you are totally oblivious to the big cross on their jackets or helmets-- :rotfl:

Yep, bikers are good people. I actually feel safe when they're around, as I know they'll fight for me and my children if anything happens.

I do get nervous anytime a motorcycle is anywhere near me in the road, and I give it a wide berth, as I am scared to death I'll hit them just because they're so small and unprotected (relatively).
