I always get sick at the wrong times!

I'm not generally a person who gets sick very often. I usually get a cold or two every year. But this year they seem to come on when I have something I'm looking forward to doing! In February, I missed my parent's anniversary dinner. It was actually supposed to be at my house. But my dad is in his 80s and has had a heart bypass. We try to stay far away from him when we're sick. Everyone else in the family ended up having pizza at my parents house while I stayed home staring at all the stuff I was going to cook.

Tomorrow there's going to be a huge celebration in honor of my husband. He directs a competitive chorus (think Glee for grown-ups!). This year is his 20th anniversary as director. They're doing a show with groups from all over the area and a this-is-your-life kind of thing for my husband (we don't know exactly what they're planning - they've kept it under wraps). And, you probably guessed it, I'm sick! All but 2 of the kids in my preschool class have been sick in the past few weeks. I started feeling a little cough coming on earlier this week but it didn't seem like anything. I felt fine otherwise. Last night, I started running a fever and generally feeling really cruddy. I stayed home from work today and I have no idea how I'll feel tomorrow. It wouldn't be good if I have to miss the celebration but I certainly can't go if I'm sick. Plus, after the show, we're planning to go out for my dad's 84th birthday which is today.

I guess I'll get a little cheese to go with my whine.

Congratulations to your husband on 20 years of directorship and to your Dad for 84 years of living! I used to direct a couple of choirs. Played the organ and conducted at the same time so I appreciate the honors for your husband.

But now to you. That is the pits being sick for these important events! You poor thing!! But what are you going to do? Go and you chance infecting others, not to mention feeling dreadful. I guess you'll have to stay home.

No, I won't go if I'm not better by tomorrow. I won't go near my dad when I'm sick, not to mention the other people who will be at the event. I'm having a hard enough time staying away from my kids. My husband took our DS11 to a high school football to see our neighbor's boyfriend play. And our DS14 is in the other room on the computer. Feels kind of lonely here!

ugh! I rarely get sick, but I'm kinda terrified of getting sick just before our WDW trip in December. Both my Mom (age 92) & I had rotten colds last February & it landed her in the hospital with congestive heart failure and a touch of pneumonia. I hate being sick!

I hope this is short-lived for you. Feel better.

OP, I'm the same as you. I rarely get sick. The last two times I got sick, I had paid a good amount of money to attend parties for some people I have known for a LONG time. Despite paying the money, I just really wanted to be there. On one of them, I had a 24 hour intestinal "bug" and on another I had the worst cold (hadn't had a cold in 3 years on that one).

This coming Saturday is parent's weekend at my DD's college. Two ladies in my office have been terribly sick with colds and I'm just sitting here waiting for my turn...I bet I get it right before the weekend.
