We were waiting for the SM parade and a mother duck and about 4 yearlings came waddling by. Everyone around us was oohing and awhing about how cute it was.

Well a group of people came walking at the ducks from the front and side and the ducks became confused and started heading each and every way (these people seemed to be aware of the ducks). At the same time another woman pushing a stroller was heading directly for the ducks seeming not to see them

I yelled "MA'AM WATCH OUT"

She slowed down abit and said "don't worry they will get out of the way just watch"

Everyone was just shocked... talk about someone that didn't have the Disney spirit

Unfortunately, the local wildlife has become so comfortable around people that many of the animals (especially ducks) will not get out of the way (at times it seems that they think we will get out of the way). This is yet another example of why it is not a good idea to feed animals in the parks. That behavior encourages the behavior detailed by the OP, and I would just as soon exclaim "Some People!" about the folks I see all the time giving handouts to *wild* animals. "Look, we're helping to destroy their natural survival instincts, HOW CUTE!!!"

steve, while i agree with you, disney does have "duck food" stations at several locations around the resort. i can't help but think that helps to encourage the problem.

The duck food is generally available in locations that encourage the ducks to be in the water if they want to eat it. Conversely, many of the animals that get handouts from diners have to travel across pathways and streets to get their spoils.

We ran over a bird while we were on the monorail last Monday. DR and I were sitting up front (got to ride up front 3 times this trip) and a bird was sitting on the track. As we approached we both thought surely the bird would hear us and fly away, but alas we went right over the top.

I couldn't believe how many mean spirited people were towards the wildlife at the Parks last week. There were plenty of kids who decided it was fun to terrorize birds and try to stomp on them. Then there were the teenage boys who thought it was fun to dump water on the head of the gator at the Magic Kingdom. They wanted to see if it would open it's mouth. DUH. I wanted to dump my bottle of Dasani on that idiot's head and see how they liked it!
Then again if I'd just pushed that guy over the railing I'm sure the gator would have opened it's mouth. ;)

I assume she was right, or your story would have had a more grisly resolution.

On our last trip at the beginning of May, there was Ma and Pa and 5 ducklings begging for food at the DTD McDonald's. They were not in any way frightened by all the people and came right up to the tables. We wouldn't feed them so they carried on to the next table.

I can't stand the Ducks...oh, sorry, wrong thread! :p

Did they get out of the way?

I'm going to move this to our community board for you.

Dont waste your $3.50 you spent on that water... when your latter idea is much better ;)

I would've dumped the water on that kid's head. When his jaw dropped to the ground I would've said, "Oh look honey! He opened his mouth!!!!" LOL!!!

Yup, it was in the Rivers Of America near the bridge leading from Liberty Square to Frontierland. I had heard about the gator before but this was the first time I saw it for real.
Here are some pics I took about 2 1/2 weeks ago of the area and the gator:

It looks to be fairly young. Maybe 3 feet in length.
