I posted this on another Thread, but it was suggested I post this here as well...

A little information about I 95 in South Georgia--south of Savannah.

No problem...all of you guys headed South on 95 need to be aware that a couple of counties South of Savannah, you're going to hit some pretty heavy construction (widening of I95). When you hit Macintosh County, I 95 is still 3lanes. You're going to start coming up to a truck weigh station, and it will go back down to two lanes---this is where construction will start, and it's nasty.

Concrete Jersey barriers on both sides with nowhere to go in an emergency. Also, all the bridges North and one south of Brunswick are being worked on as well, so it's tight.

Construction zone will continue through Brunswick, so at least 20-25 miles...

Keep that in mind if you're already in heavy traffic before you get there...

NMK, the exit you stayed on is Exit 36. There's an A and a B side to the exit (Hwy 341 one headed north, one south). At varying times they have CLOSED ONE SIDE of the exit and detoured traffic.

In typical GA DOT fashion, the closures and the Exit itself are VERY POORLY marked!!! Just an FYI.

OP, seriously, Kingsland is not that much farther. I live 7 miles off the interstate from Kingsland, and it takes me less than 45 minutes to get from my house to my office (FLETC--which is security controlled), which is also a bit off the interstate.

I would say you only have 20-25 minutes more of driving time from Brunswick to Kingsland, if that. The construction ends just south of Exit 36.

Thank you for the info! I'll be making the drive down in about 5 weeks. :thumbsup2

No real alternate route...you could take 301, but I think by the time you got there and went through Hinesville, and the other towns then cut back to Orlando, you might save some traffic headaches, but not time..

You CAN get on 17 in MacIntosh county and go through Brunswick, over the big Suspension Bridge which will take you back to 95 South of the construction...

The intersection of 17 and 95 has heavy truck traffic, so be advised....

I would only do this if traffic was at a standstill...there are signs before you get tothe area with a number to call for traffic advisories--I drive by one every morning, but I can't recall the number to save my life...:rolleyes1

It might not hurt to give it a call when you're coming up on it...

Also, the intersection of I 95 and I 10 in Jacksonville has been redone...(DW works in Jacksonville)..

There's a good bit of construction going on right at the split, but I think it will be better in the long run!

The biggest change will be when you're coming home (95 North)....pay close attention to the signs or you'll end up on I 10 or worse yet, Downtown Jacksonville!!!!

THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO 295 AROUND JACKSONVILLE...

If you're coming or going during rush hour, I would take 9A vice 95 or 295...it's completed all the way around back to 95 south of Jacksonville...

Once you pass the airport exit, it's the SECOND exit after that....the first exit you come to is 295, the second is 9A (you go under the highway, then "pigtail up onto it"..

There's some construction for a new ramp here as well, but 9A gets me around quicker than 295 does and is a lot less prone to traffic jams!!!

You do have to go over a big bridge though, but it's a nice view!!!

Thanks DisneyFed for the great advice. We have family making the drive down in December and I'll be sure to pass this info on to them.

Stay safe over there, and thank you for your service!
