I have tried the search function here, but I cannot find the thread about hotels up and down I-95.
Southbound we stayed overnight at a Hampton Inn in Darien, GA - nice, clean, friendly staff. The front desk man recommended a good local seafood which we enjoyed.
Northbound we stayed at the Country Inn & Suites in Lumberton, NC recently, & I would NOT recommend it. We have stayed there a few times prior to this stay, and it was fine. It was always clean and fresh looking ... NOT this week
.
This time it looked and felt very run down and dirty. The carpet in both the room and the hallway was filthy, and the bathroom floor was sticky-ish and had footprints on it before we walked onto it. The threshold between the carpet in the bedroom and the tile bathroom floor was dirty. Wallpaper was peeling all over the bathroom and the metal strips holding up the ceiling were very rusty. The bathtub was so dirty that I did not use it at all.
We could never get the AC to work properly. It more or less cooled the room, but it never took out the humidity. I woke up this morning with a sore throat.
I did kill some big black bug, but other guests had roaches - yuck!
The breakfast was awful. My husband threw away his coffee; he said it tasted like burnt Maxwell House.
