I-5 Grapevine closed

Saw this on the traffic website just now...

ACCIDENT

7:20 AM THE GRAPEVINE: 5 IS -CLOSED- IN BOTH DIRECTIONS NEAR GORMAN (NB CLOSED AT PARKER, SB AT GRAPE VINE ROAD) DUE TO A CRASH OF 2 BIG RIGS THAT HAPPENED AT 4AM (RIGS WERE ON FIRE & ONE CARRIED HAZARDOUS MATERIALS) .. SOUTHBOUND MAY OPEN SOON, NO ETO FOR NORTHBOUND..

What a bummer! I remember when I was a kid - about 9 yo - we had to add about 4 (?) hours driving time onto a trip to DL because we got to the Grapevine and it was already closed for snow in November...... No Fun! Hope everyone in the accident is ok.....

They were making attempts at trying to get some of the cars turned around and giving them alternative routes.

knock on wood we have never been stoped on the vine due to an accident or weather. We did have to go home 101 one year because of snow but we caught it on the news before we left the hotel.

My uncle & family were stuck overnight because of snow on the Grapevine.

I think the worse time I ever tried leaving via the north exit of Los Angeles, it took forever. LA - Fresno is typically a 4-hour drive. I left at 3:30pm, and didn't get to Fresno until after 10pm. Since it was so late, I just drove straight to Yosemite & slept in my car under a lightpole - it was midnight by the time we got there.

We had a trip like that too! It once took us 5 hours to get from DL to Bakersfield (normally less than 2.5 hours). All due to traffic, no accidents.
