Hi, we will be leaving WDW traveling to the gulf for a week of R&R, I know that there is alot of construction on I-4 and I was wondering if it would be feasible to take RT 27 south to Rt 60 over to Tampa to miss the construction..We would be traveling on a Saturday evening..DO they work on I-4 on Sat nites? We got tangled in that mess last year..Thanks for any input on this... :moped: :moped: :moped:

I wouldn't.

3 lanes are now open 27 to Lakeland. I go to Tampa twice a week and it is much better now.

Go before 10PM to avoid any lane closures in the Lakeland area. After Mile Marker 28 it's 65 70 to Tampa.

Just wondering how much longer that route is, we've gone I 10 to 301 to I 75 to tpk to 27 when we stopped at silver springs. Seemed to be about 2 hours longer, and I 75 is further out of the way.

Do you mean 3 lanes are open on I4 westbound from 27 to Lakeland? I'll have to disagree with this. Drove it every day this past week and weekend. Well, not all the way to Lakeland every day, but we did yesterday. Eastbound has had the third lane open, westbound has not yet. And Lakeland is still pretty messy with two narrow lanes, Jersey barriers and lane shifts.

Now, they plan on opening the lanes within the next week or so.

Having said that, going down 27 to 60 would be a nightmare. Even if there is traffic on I4, you are better off, in my opinion, to grin and bear I4.

I understand it was to be today. I'll know WED.

Either way 60 is not a good choice as you stated. I-4 is a little messy in Lakeland but not bad the rest of the way.

Another note. We just got back from driving a few towns down 27. It is a mess. Serious construction almost the whole length, south of Davenport.

nah, they are supposed to open the new lane "sometime this week", but much of the paving isn't done yet.

Lakeland is still pretty bad, but if you expect it and are careful, it is over quickly. I would walk I4 to Tampa before I drove on 60. I just hate it.

On Dec. 1st, we'll be driving from Port Canaveral to Tampa Airport to catch a 2 pm plane. Do you think I 4 will be better by then?? Please say yes!

Take I-4. It's not bad now.
