Let's pretend your resort (BCV or BWV) was magically moved to VWL's location.
Would those resorts still appeal to you as much as they do now? Assuming they're your favorite resorts now, would they still be your favorite?

Conversely, if VWL were transplanted to the Boardwalk, would that resort appeal to you more?

I know the themes would be out of character with respect to location, but let's ignore that part of the equation.

I'm trying to get a handle on how important location is vs theming for DVCers. :santa:

We own at BWV so whatever DVC resort would end up in its place :thumbsup2 at BW ( like VWL ) then we would get VWL. Reason is for the Parks Epcot and MGM.
We love BWV but also love the location, so we would buy there. :cool1:

I agree. Whatever resort was at the boardwalk area is where we would stay

I don't think that would be magic, it would make me cry!

See, we own at both, (VWL and BWV) and really like them each just where they are.

We, too, own @ both & love them...each in their own special way.;)

Totally different vibe, we expect it, so it's not biggie.

DH is a WL kind of guy, especially after all day in the parks, it's a nice, quiet respite.

I agree w/him but, enjoy the action on the BW too and the ability to walk to Epcot.

If BW didn't have the less expensive stand rooms, I expect we would sell for the next best thing.

I bought BWV over BCV because of the entertainment right out the door and being able to hang out right on the boardwalk. I also bought this location over others for convenience to Epcot and MGM !

We bought BWV because of the location. The theme is OK, but it's not exactly our favorite. I love being able to walk to both Epcot and MGM, and it would be difficult to give that up. Although, I am looking forward to trying out AKV!!!

Happy Holidays!

If VWL was at the BW it would be my favorite DVC. Location AND theming/quality of servies offered are equal in my book.

We own at BCV.

IF BCV was at VWL... hummm... well I would like it better then the VWL (in it's current location). I would probably like BCV equally in it's new location verses the orginal. The theme and architecture are important to me (that's why we have a contract at VB not a Marriott). So for us I think theme and location are weighted equally. I do like the MK area location (I think, will find out in Feb.) and Epcot area location so the change did not affect that aspect too much. Maybe we like Epcot a little more.

Location for us. Actually we like the theming of the VWL better than BWV (although BWV is great!). We didn't buy into VWL because it was for sale later and we were pretty much done with buying points. For us, BWV is all about walking into Epcot!

Same here. Location's the point of the entire exercise for us-thats why we go there-closer the better, amenities follows that. If the BW and BCV (SAB) resort area was where VWL is now-we would still buy there and concentrate on MK when staying there. If VWL was in place of the BW we would still buy there as well.

Location, Location, Location MG. While we love the "Beachy" atmosphere of the BWV and BCV, it all comes down to where they are, not what they look or feel like. We own at the BWV and BCV.

Emotionally, I like theming best.

Practically, the most important thing is ease of transportation to all the resorts and parks.

The location of BWV/BCV does not do much for me because EPCOT is my least favorite park & the bus system stinks.

VWL has better location for us because of the access via. boat to MK (and thus the MK resorts and FW activities). I like the boats!

SSR is the best location for us in terms of easy, efficient Disney transportation access to all four parks/waterparks/DTD and all other resorts. It is not my favorite theme.

AKV appeals to me because AK is my favorite park and I don't think there will be the dreaded resort bus sharing. I'll have to see how the trasporatation options pan out. Access to efficient Disnay transportation is very, very important to us because we don't like to drive when we are on vacation - using the busses/boats is part of the magic for us.

For me it would depend on whether you transported the entire resort or just the Villas portion. If you just swapped the Villas, I'd say location. If you switched the entire resort, I'd say the resort would come first. But remember that both are good locations in their own way, they just appeal to a different group of people by age of children and other intangibles. To truly arrive at an understanding of one resort vs another, you'd need to somehow negate the location portion totally and then ask people who did not have a preconceived preference prior to the question such as new visitors to WDW who had never seen either and then swap them in the middle of the stay. You'd also have to negate the park preferences in some way either by no park visits or only allow those at WL to go to Epcot or MGM and those at the BC/YC or BW to go to MK.

I would stick with the location. We own at BWV because it's close to Epcot. I happen to like the theme of VWL better, but I prefer the location of BWV.

Half or more of the appeal of the BWV to me is the location. I happen to think the VWL is better themed, but has a lousy location in comparison.

To me, it's all about location, and the EPCOT resorts have it.

Let me add, that part of the location advantage is that there are about a dozen super-high-end restaurants "on-site," which I define as being Boardwalk. Yacht and Beach, Swan, Dolphin or EPCOT. If another resort could offer easy walking access to this many restaurants, I might be interested, although I must confess the loss of park access would be a bummer.

Although I love the Martha's Vineyard feeling of BCV, and of course I love the BC Marketplace's pistachio gelato, I'd have to strongly consider VWL if it were the resort that was there. The location, being a convenient walk to Epcot; the ability to squish my bare feet in the sand or in the pool (I'm assuming SAB would stay); the ability to have a sundae at B&C-those are all compelling reasons for me to consider switching loyalties to a resort-location rules!

VWL theme within walking distance to Epcot would be ideal. VWL is my favorite resort, but is a little out of the way from where we spend the majority of our time - and walking back from Epcot is very nice.

But I think VWL would lose much of its appeal if it were that close to things. Part of the reason its so completely themed is because its removed.

We own at both VWL and BWV. I think most know how we feel about them, especially VWL.

I would say that if WL/VWL "moved" to the BWV location...even assuming all the trees and grounds came with it....it would be diminished because you'd lose the great backdrop of Bay Lake. I'm sure we'd still enjoy it with Crescent Lake, but it would be significantly less well situated.

Likewise, moving BWV to the shores of Bay Lake would make for a prettier setting for that resort, but then you'd have a Boardwalk with a very different traffic flow. I'm thinking of how crowded the Boardwalk gets each night after Illuminations, etc.

For us, theming trumps location. But in a way, location is part of the theming. :)

Hmmm... that is a real difficult question. I would say themeing would out weigh location by just a little bit. I really don't like the theme at VWL at all, I am just not a woodsy outdoor type of person. I own at BCV, I love the beachy theme. Honestly, though it is the whole package.
