Hypothetical for BWV & BCV owners...

We own at both BCV and SSR; you can't really beat being able to walk to the parks (BCV/Epcot) (SSR/DTD) and not having to wait for a bus or boat.

I love the look of VWL -- not sure how it would look stuck on to the boardwalk, but I bet I would still enjoy it.
There are definitely vacations which are planned to "get away from it all" and OKW usually gets our nod for that; VWL is a great second choice for that type of vacation for our family, as is SSR.

Bottom line: We look for location during Food & Wine Festival, and we look for theming/experience of the resort during most other vacations -- especially when the parks are full (like Xmas).

Although I love the theming of both BWV and VWL (I'm not overly imressed with BCV), I bought BWV for its location. I love the convenience of being able to walk to Epcot and MGM, and and I love the dining and entertainment options on the Boardwalk (ESPN, Big River Grille, Jellyrolls, etc.). If the entertainment stayed and only the villas section changed, I'd buy in to VWL.

like some of the others I would stay with whatever resort was at the Boardwalk because of the location to Epcot and MGM.

We bought BWV because that is what they were selling but have come to love the location. I believe that themeing is not important as it could be completely changed by Disney and it would be fine with us as long as it was up to Disney standards

L-O-C-A-T-I-O-N no matter what the theme! Although I actually love the furnishings more at SSR (love the computer desk in MBR since I always have to work some when I travel).
Really love walking back from Epcot after seeing Illuminiations rather than waiting for a crowded bus or monorail. We are looking forward to our first Boardwalk View this year after adding on points at BWV just for that 11 month window of opportunity.

I both love the theme of BWV AND it's location....

If BWV was moved to where VWL is now and VWL was moved to where BWV are... I would still stay at BWV if I was to go at Christmas time becasue I love how BWV is decorated for Christmas MUCH more than VWL, but all my other trips would have to be at VWL for the location, but it would suck becasue I am not tickled over VWL theming... but walking distance to Epcot is too wonderful to pass up

Location includes 'view' I presume.

I don't think there is anything to compare with the view from a boardwalk view BW unit. I'd go with the view, no matter the theming, but as for preferences with theming, I like OKW and BC and Bw best. I live in the midst of Wilderness....so I see the real thing every time I walk outside.

Thanx to everybody for the great, and well thought out replies! :)

With a few notable exceptions, it seems as though location is the major driver.
It also seems as though the prefered location is, as expected, the BW/BC area.
Although I didn't tally things with pen & paper, at a glance it appears the WL/VWL may have the theming advantage.

I didn't state our opinion, although many here could probably guess... We much prefer theming over location.

On our typical WDW visit we spend eight nights at VWL (after VB of course). If it's during F&W we visit Epcot roughly four days. If it's a non F&W trip, we do Epcot maybe two days.

We just love being submersed in the theming that WL/VWL offers, and I just can't imagine giving that up in order to walk to Epcot an average of three times per trip.

Thanx again! :santa:

BCV would still be my favorite "theme", but I suspect BWV would become my favorite resort (if BCV was moved, and BWV was not)...or, maybe VWL would become my new favorite resort. :confused3

Either way, location and Illuminations views are biggies to me.

Wow, I've never been referred to as "notable" before! :teeth:

Very cool! :thumbsup2

I think there is a very large group of DVC owners where location is the most important thing by far.....that location being WDW!! :goodvibes

Fun thread, MG. :)

We really like changing locations midpoint in our trip. I know several of you don't, but we like to be near the parks we plan to attend. We own at both BCV and VWL for that reason. When we are doing Epcot & MGM we stay at BCV/Boardwalk/Swan and at VWL/Poly we visit MK and relax. That is what we have done in the past when renting regular rooms from Disney anyway. Brand new owners who get to check out our DVC soon!

When we bought into DVC we ended up with BWV, because OKW was sold out.
The first time I walked into the room, I fell in love with the pretty.crisp, clean, sunny colors and the location. Now I wouldn't trade it. No way, no how.
Location matters most to me now, but the themeing is really enchanting at the Boardwalk.
I am a log cabin lover. I have honestly always wanted to live in one, so if VWL was available when we bought in, I probably would have chosen it based on themeing. I never had a desire for a Atlantic City Boardwalk stay.
I am so grateful for my timing.
But like you indicated in the question, VWL is designed to reflect forest, calm and tranquility. That is the feeling the rooms should project. I have heard the rooms at VWL are dark and cool.
You can't put that where the Boardwalk is. It is in the middle of the action. And I wouldn't trade my Boardwalk home for double the points anywhere else.
