Hypothetical Disney Proto-type???

In planning a vacation with my brother's family, I really don't want to get them tooooooo excited. Like many have said, "Expect nothing and you'll be so excited when the "magic" happens"!!!

Anyway, reading the thread on "the coolest thing that's ever happened to you", all of the "things" have to do with "the feeling we get when we're there", the magic we ourselves share with others, the kindness and little surprises from the CM's. Not really anything about the "theme park rides etc.", or the physical part that is Disney.

So the question is, "Is there a Disney prototype person like us, who just "feels the Disney magic", can it happen to anyone, or are there some people that just "won't get it" and only see the place as a theme park full of unusual rides???

I have no idea really, like I said, I really am trying not to build it up to my brother and family tooooooo much, cuz what if they "don't get it"???

I know exactly what you are talking about..... People think I am nuts. I have stopped trying to convince those people my reasons for loving Disney so much, I found it to be a complete waste of time and energy. I truely believe that there are people out there that will find fault with just about everything!!!!! I have decided to stick with my own kind until those "other people" get sprinkled with enough pixie dust to turn them in the right direction.:p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

The prototype: grew up on Disney movies, has a favorite Disney song (mine: "I wanna be like you"), is a bit sentimental, still possesses childlike wonder, is willing to leave cynicism at home and "play".

However, I am now convinced, after guiding a good friend (one who dreaded his obligatory WDW visit with his daughters) through a successful family visit (he's planning to return!), that we can at least convert some of the more open-minded non-prototypes into at least moderate fans.

There are some people who just don't get Disney. They think its overpriced, overcrowded, overhyped and too syrupy.

There are other people who like Disney, who enjoy their visits, but who are more than content going once, maybe twice, in their lives.

Then there are the rest of us...and we know who we are! And yes, I think there's at least a general prototype for us. DancingBear gave a good description.

Begging to differ just a tad........

A little history to begin with........

My husband grew up with 4 brothers and his mom. His dad was killed in an accident when my husband was 6. Needless to say, there was not a lot of money for "extras". He was married right out of high school and the marriage lasted less than a year. It nearly devastated him. He remained single for 19 years (until he met me :teeth: ). We were married in 1999. You might say he was "jaded" (understatement of the year).

My husband is a thrill ride junkie. He LOVES Cedar Point and all the roller coasters there (if you are unfamiliar with Cedar Point, go to www.cedarpoint.com). The higher and faster, the better. There aren't a lot of that type ride at WDW. HOWEVER......

In 2000 I took my husband to Disney World. He LOVED every minute of it. He has become a Buzz Lightyear fan (big time), watches Disney movies, enjoys adding to my Disney collections, walks around the house singing "Hakuna Matata" or whistling "Trashing the Camp." He loves WDW now and looks forward to every trip as much as I do. So, maybe those who grew up on Disney may be predisposed to love it, but the Magic still works on those who may not be predisposed to it also. I know, I've seen it.

By the way........ I didn't tell him ANYTHING before we left. EVERYTHING was a total surprise. The thing that took him back the most (and still his favorite thing in all the world) was seeing Tinkerbell flying over the park. The first time he saw her we were just getting out of Buzz Lightyear (we were actually on our way to the Luau at the Polynesian and had arrived a little early so we popped in to MK just for Buzz) and he saw her. It hadn't dawned on me that she would be making an early flight on that night. I had planned on the fireworks later in the week. For the rest of the trip he kept asking if we were going to see Tinkerbell again. We got a kitten a year ago on Memorial Day and he named her.....you guessed it......Tinkerbell.

That's perfect DancingBear, If that's the "prototype", well then I think my brother and family are going to love it. They are very much like that, but I'll still keep it a low profile!!! Except for the excitement I have in sharing this with someone new. I better concentrate on our visit in DECEMBER, instead of already planning next summer. But December is just "hubby and me", special!!! And as everyone does, we have "our routine"!!!

When we first got married, he refused to watch anything Disney with me. Didn't like the animated movies, scoffed at my MM stuff and couldn't understand why I had been there so many times.

Due to my illness, we had to cancel three trip befor we finally made it there together in 2000. We went the whole nine yards, Disney, both Universal Pks, SeaWorld and DCL.

He absolutely LOVED it. Came home depressed!! My Sister had brought him a pin with his name on it when she went three months before us, when we got home, he started wearing it on his work uniform. I knew I had won him over when he announced to me, six months after we came home that he needed a "Disney Fix"! He wore his MM T-Shirt to bed almost every night, inbetween washings, until it was litteraly in shreds. I'm going for a convention in 2 months. Feel a little guilty leaving him, but, he has to work. He told me what he really wants is another T-Shirt he can wear until we go again together next year.

My opinion is YES someone can change!

Daisimae

PS He watches the movies with me now too!

I am a type A personality...obsessive, workaholic, perfectionist, very driven.

However, when it comes to Disney I am a complete dingbat. I have Winnie the Pooh pajamas, watch the Wonderful World of Disney program every Sunday night at 7:00 pm, start planning my next WDW vacation WHILE I am on the current one!

We bought DVC and told ourselves that we would use it to "travel the world." Yeah, right. I predict we will never go anywhere else but Disney....okay maybe Vero.

Anyway...when people find out that I am a Disney nut they cannot believe it. Most of my associates are "world travelers" and really look down their noses at me. I tell them don't knock it till you try it.

I challenge them to find another vacation destination anywhere in the world that offers so much. Feel like going to the tropics? Check out CBR or OKW. Europe? Visit Epcot. The desert? Try CSR. Hawaii? The Poly! Educational stuff? Disney Quest or Epcot's Innoventions areas.

I have an answer for everything and they hate it.

After having been to the world 4 times (in 3 years) my family is definately hooked. Planned trip 5 with my sister and her clan. They hated everything.... too crowded, overpriced, the food stinks..I could go on but why bother??? She could not understand why we went so often. I could not understand what she hated so much. She did love LOVE the Animal Kingdom Lodge (where we stayed). Her, husband and youngest spent 4 of our 6 days at the resort hanging by the pool!!!! I took her other two with me and my clan to the parks. How do you not LOVE Disney??????? Different strokes for different folks. All I know is, when I drop 4 grand on a vacation. I am getting the most from it....not just hanging by a pool.
