Hypothetical about ADRS...

So, here's my question. I'm not promoting this or anything, I'm just curious why people don't do this.

I thought about this because all of the BOG ressies that seem to be getting canceled and then not showing up in the system. (This has happened to me, twice! And yes, I coordinated!)

Why doesn't the Disboarder just give their name to the other Disboarder instead of cancelling the ressie? For example, DISer with ressie's name is Jane Smith. Person who wants ressie is Sarah Johnson. Why doesn't Sarah just show up, say her name is Jane Smith, and proceed to eat at the restaurant? That is, unless you have to pay for the meal with the credit card you used on the confirmation, but I'm sure that's not the case because what if that credit card was lost, or there's that relative that insists on paying.

I know it'd be risky as far as not having a confirmation number, but so is canceling the reservation and hoping they didn't overbook the restaurant.

I can see how people might not want to give their names out, but I mean, I wouldn't care. Also, I know that means Jane Smith couldn't have an ADR at the same time, but wouldn't it work for people who had to cancel and/or rearrange the trip?

...or am I missing something here and just talking nonsense because I just got home from 7 straight hours of class? :P

Well swapping is not allowed here. Other reasons as you mentioned about ADR #s. issues with credit cards used for holds / names not matching. All that said, I did that once with someone I actually knew. She had to cancel her trip and gave me her Le Cellier ADR about 4 years ago. I would not do it with just anyone on a message board.

That makes sense. I guess I was just curious as to wether or not the name on the card mattered. Like I said, it's all just me overthinkig! :)

I seriously considered that when I had a BOG I wished I could trade for 'Ohana... but both of those are CC guarantees. I'd be risking that the family I was switching with would show up to the ressie or it'd be MY CC that would be charged. Of course, they'd have to trust me to show up to their ressie too... and I'd have to trust them not to cancel or change their ressie without telling me.

Then I worried that when I checked in for the ressie that wasn't mine and said I was someone else, that the podium staff might ask if I was on the DDP (which I am) and then ask to see my KTTW card which would not have a matching name.

Too many risks, worries, and possible hitches to make it worth it. After all, vacations are supposed to be relaxing and as stress/worry-free as possible. In most cases, if you're persistent you will eventually find something close to what you're looking for.

Yes - too many worries and risks with this scenario. I feel like frustration level is growing with those difficulties getting ADRs we desire. I wish I could change my Thanksgiving Ohana ADR for BOG on any day during my week... As weeks go by I feel it is not likely to happen; I am losing hope for getting BOG at this point. Multiple daily checkings for over 6 weeks are not working, and probably not likely to work. BOG was likely significantly overbooked with the CC glitch on Aug 20, and cancellations are not getting into the system. They would probably need many cancellations in order to release more ADRs, and if people reserved multiple times/days without CC guarantee, they may not cancel them that eagerly. So is it worth spending time for pointless BOG searching?... Disney is a Magic Place and Disney vacations are supposed to be fun. I am leaning more and more into just enjoying things I already have: CRT, CP, Desert Party, and forget about BOG.
