I just saw the announcement that Hyperspace Mountain will be back on May 4th for a limited time. Anyone care to guess how long this overlay will last? We don't have a trip planned until the 2nd week of July. We really want DS to experience this for the first time.

TIA

I'd be really surprised if they took it down before the transition to Ghost Galaxy. It would be unnecessary down time during the summer when they already have downtime planned to transition it for the next overlay.

But, as mentioned above, it's all speculation at this point.

Speculation here so far is until they change it up for Halloween. But you never know...

Good to know I can most likely take it off my list for my late July trip. I'm one of the few people alive who cannot stand Star Wars and pretends that it is not part of Disney.

I’m really excited that we’ll get to ride, and love StarWars. I’d be crushed if it was down, as it was for our Sept trip. Finally I get to ride the DL version! On my last 2 days.

What exactly is Hyperspace mountain? I've never heard of it.
Hyperspace Mountain is an overlay converting Space Mountain into a Star Wars themed ride where the soundtrack and projections in the ride are switched over to Star Wars such that you're riding through an epic fight between the Rebels and the Empire at the start of the Battle of Jakku. The actual ride mechanics etc do not change. It first appeared during the "Season of the Force" in late 2015 and stayed until, I believe, May 2017 when the ride went back to regular Space Mountain.

I do love Space Mountain but I think Hyperspace Mountain is even better (I do not like the Halloween Ghost Galaxy overlay much at all). I absolutely love Hyperspace Mountain and am thrilled its coming back! :darth::chewy:

I just looked it up on Youtube. I LOVE the original Space mountain ride but I am definitely excited to be able to ride this when its themed differently. I wasn't a fan of Ghost Galaxy so I am curious how this is going to be with the Star Wars retheming. My dad and boyfriend who are giant SW fans are going to flip when they hear this news. You all made my afternoon with this news. Thanks!

We are planning to be there 4/27-5/1. If they are putting HSM overlay in for 5/4,will the ride be down our whole trip?

I think this is hard to say for sure because last time they did Hyperspace Mountain was the first time, so if I remember correctly it was a long-ish refurb. However, Space Mountain generally only takes a few days to switch back and forth between the regular ride and Ghost Galaxy. My instinct is to think that they now have all the screens and effects pre-programmed and the switch over will only take a few days, but we don't really have a lot of history to go off of. So far it's not showing up on the refurb list on the calendar for the end of April, but it's possible it hasn't been updated yet.

Super excited. We have a one day visit planned in August. The kids are going to be excited to see Hyperspace again!

Well according to their site it’s still open on the 30th of April, I expect Tuesday the 1st of May it will go down and be back on the 3rd for the evening, it’s a simple transition.

Thank you all! Praying it’s open for at least some of our trip. We love HSM but at this point I’ll just taking being able to ride any version during our late April trip!

The only version of SM I haven't seen is GG, but we actually liked HSM, even though we hadn't watched Star Wars yet (we're not that weird, I swear!) when we rode it, lol. Now we've watched the movies and I def love Star Wars, so I'm a-ok with the overlay coming back and them doing March of the First Order now (which I thought was really cool at HS).

I went on it once, and it was kind of fun, but it's nothing that I would get excited about. Probably for two reasons:
The beginning is wrong. You've got the hyperspace stars in front of you, but you're barely moving.
Second, Star Tours. If that didn't exist, I might have enjoyed Hyperspace Mountain more.
