Hyatt Grand Cypress-reviews?

Looking for some recent feedback on this resort. What are the beds like, are they really uncomfortable? Are there fridges in the room? THanks!

I stayed at the Hyatt Grand Cypress (club level) in October of 2004 (I think). It was when Hurricane Jeanne hit, so we had to cut our vacation short by evacuating 1 day early. We were there for a total of 3 days. The hotel was great. I've stayed in some pretty good ones, and I thought that this one was right up there as far as being a complete resort. They have everything there. My wife was in Orlando for business (not a convention at the hotel), so we found the Hyatt on the web and stayed there. We got a pretty good rate (150ish), and used some Hyatt points to get upgraded to club level. Club level was great. Coffee and breakfast in the morning and Heinekens and hors d'oeuvres in the evening. I would estimate that saving us about 60 bucks a day, so it was worth it for me. I never left the resort, so when we did buy our lunch, it was a little pricey, but nothing out of the ordinary. There was enough food on club level to take care of the rest.

The hotel was big. Our room was nothing spectacular, but it was clean and the maid service was great. We had no balcony or anyting like that so I would just call my room average but clean (very important). The lobby was nice and big with a couple of glass elevators a loud and crazy parrott. It is open with a nice atrium. They had a bar in the lobby with a few tvs. But the best part of the hotel were the grounds. They were HUGE. I actually played pitch and putt every day. It was a 9 hole course with holes ranging from 50 to 90 yards. They gave us a 7 iron and a putter. It was a perfect place to play and teach my children the game. That was by far my favorite feature. Did I mention that it was free too. It was included in the resort fees. They also have sail boats and those pedal type boats. They wouldn't let us sail because they supposedly spotted an alligator. But we could use the paddle boats. I wasn't afraid of some alligator, so I took out the pedal boat. It was fun. There were also lots of fish in the lake and they had the gumball maching feeding thingies there. Pretty cool. We also used the surrey bikes. They were fun. We drove around the resort on the surrey and had a blast. Those things are tough to pedal uphill when your kids decide to not help either. We rode those every day too and loved them. Then they had this huge horse stable with horses. It cost to ride, but not to go and look at them, which is what we did. That was cool too. We walked over there through some old west village that they had set up. It was pretty wild.

I forget about some of my stay there because the hurricane drove us out, but it was awesome when we were there. The pool was NOT heated. I repeat. NOT heated! That sucked, but we took some pretty awesome pictures in front of it. My kids said it was warm, but believe me, it was cold. I don't know what was up with that, but maybe they have since changed things. The game room was nice and big with lots of games. They alsohad a playground where my kids mesed around a little too. We didn't even need to do Disney, but we went shopping there one afternoon. It was like a 5 minute drive to Downtown Disney. I would definetely go back if the price was right. I decided to try the Omni this thime around. I got a great rate and will be checking it out in May.

Thanks for the review! I love the idea of using the green and the pedal boats as we won't be visiting the park. How long would it take to walk to DTD from the Hyatt? We won't have a rental car. THanks.

It would be at least a 30 minute walk to Downtown Disney (just guessing). They do have shuttles at the hotel. I never used them, and the day that we did leave to go to Downtown Disney, we made it there quick. I rented a car, but did not really need it, however it was cheap enough that I think it was the right thing to do. From what I remember, you take a right out of the hotel lot and go about a half mile or so to the main road, then take another right and go about another half mile or so to the enterance to Downtown Disney area. Then, I'm guessing it was about 2 miles to the stores in DTD. I'm sure mapquest will be much more accurate then my foggy recollections, so see what they say just to be sure.

Bed in our room was terrible - roll away for DD had a spring problem she said, but she's a "princess" so I'm not sure it was so bad. No fridges in the room we had. Balcony was a standing room only balcony. Housekeeping wasn't fantastic, but adequate.

Grounds were spectacular. One portion of the pool was heated, but the majority was not. Supposedly 83 in heated, 63 in the main pool. Brrr..... We preferred POFQ overall.
