Does anyone know if there will be anything unusual at the Food and Wine Festival? My husband especially loves belgian beer.

Whoa, is he in luck! I am not a beer drinker myself, but he will be happy to know that they will have beers from all over the world at this event. :drinking1

Last year they had an international beer tasting in the garden area at Rose & Crown. You had to sign up at Rose & Crown early. There were 4 beers to taste and you got full bottles/cans (not each, per table, still a good amount of beer to share). One was Stella Artois. That's Belgian but I think it's mass produced, if he's looking for a lambic or something he won't get it there.

There is also the Sam Adams free beer tasting which is usually near the America pavilion. They don't give you as much beer and you don't have to sign up.

They have a tasty Belgian-style wheat beer just a short walk away at the Big River Brewery on the Boardwalk.

On the real "beer" web sites, some call Stella the Belgian Budweiser!!!
AS TDCnala says, don't expect Chimay or anything like that.

A couple of years ago they used to have Hoegaarden at the International (ie. mostly Anheuser Busch LOL) beer tent but they stopped. Unfortunately the Wozzer Wheat at Big River is seasonal and they will have an Oktoberfest in the fall instead. The good news is Germany will have Lowenbrau Oktoberfest (along with Franziskaner and Optimator). I think the Eastern European (ie. Poland) booth had Okocim which is quite tasty for a lager. Closest to belgian style is Unibroue at Le Cellier (I believe you can only get this in the restaurant during the festival).

They USED to have a Brewer's Dinner every Wednesday, but this year it's only once and not until November!!! UGH!

That being said, a lot of the booths have beer available for purchase, as well as wine and munchies. There seems to be enough going on for a Sam Adams Commercial everywhere and not enough of good beer events!

Copied this from the WDW website:

UGH...if your husband loves belgians, he won't find anything special at food/wine fest, believe me, he won't. It is the usual stuff that can be found in most grocery stores.

I have sent you a pm.

:rolleyes1 cdtommie A couple of years ago they used to have Hoegaarden at the International (ie. mostly Anheuser Busch LOL) beer tent but they stopped. Does anyone know what the seasonal beer for December might be @ Big River Brewing @ the Boardwalk? I'm hoping for a Doppel Bock!

maine jennifer:
Something not quite right when they list Becks and LaBatts Blue as among the great beers of the world :rotfl: :rotfl:
But they are popular, no doubt about that--

Bop28, the Winter beer is called "Winter's Nip" and unfortunately is is not a dopplebock. The Spaten Optimator at the Germany Pavilion is considered a classic german dopplebock (7.2% abv).

Kimmbagley, you sign up for the beer tastings at the Rose & Crown starting at noon (in the courtyard). You can only sign up for one a day (we got caught last year). They put four beers in an ice bucket for your enjoyment (was six a couple of years ago). My recommendation is to park yourself next to some of the seniors and they might pass you some of the leftovers (has worked for us several times in the past). But I'm giving away my secret...

If you get by the Animal Kingdom Lodge, tell him to go to Victoria Falls Lounge and try some Tusker Lager. It's a Kenyan beer and I haven't had any luck finding it outside AKL.

Tusker is pretty good, and I usually order it when we eat at Jikos.
They used to have their "own" beer at AKL--Safari Amber. Gone now, I believe.
Always reminded me of Michelob Amber Bock------.

Uncleromulus, Safari Amber was produced by A-B. I always though it tasted like Amber Bock also (ie. little to no flavor).

It looks like the same selection as last year, which I thought was really poor. Of those that they have, Stella Artois and Becks are considered to be premium lagers in Europe. Stella is Belgian and Becks is German. I'm not that keen on either, but of the two i'd pick Becks. Bass Ale is what I would call beer rather than lager, and is darker with a stronger flavour. It's not as gassy as lager and as a nice taste.

For some strange reason Labatt Blue was really big over here about 10 years ago, and i'd consider it the best of the lagers there (I've never tried Brahma).

Having said that, I see some of you are laughing about Budweiser, which is my favourite lager of all, closelly followed by Carlsberg :rotfl:

It's a shame they don't have unusual lagers and beers from small producers around the world though.

If you love Belgium beer you must try the UniBrue beers at Canada. They offer them year round in the restaruant (Le Cellier) and sometimes have a outdoor Kiosk that sells them. Bottles only. One is called "La Fin da Monde" and they are all so good (and strong!!).

Stella Artois is one of the top beers in all the world, it is pretty good, but again, this can be found in any of your local liqour or grocery stores.

The unibrue beers..yes, some of them are quite good, but again..they are found in almost every grocery store we have ever been in.

If someone truly loves special beers, such as Belgians, then the beers in EPCOT and the food/wine fest will do nothing for them.
