Hurt on Splash Mountain?

Thanks to all for the kind words!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

My Step-daughter is 14, she will be 15 in about 2 weeks. She is also very tall, about 5'9"-5'10" as well.

This was her first trip ever. I have been a big disney fan for my entire life. My whole house is decorated in it, and you can see my license plates as well in my sig.

I finally was able to make it to wdw for the first time in 1999. After that, i said i would go every year if i could. It is a wonderful place. I missed going in 2003 due to a divorce, but was able to go again in 2004. My 2 sons aged 15 & 13 have been 6 times now, and this trip made 7 for me. My now wife has been the last 3 trips with me, and her youngest daughter 10, was her second trip. Her oldest was not living with us when i first took them, but in dec she came to live with us so we planned on taking her as well. she was very happy after hearing all the talk from the other kids on how much fun it is.

I dont think she is soured on wdw, but is hurt. She feels bad for 'ruining' the trip, which she didnt do by this. Things happen. We tried to make the best of it. Sometimes it was ok, other times it was not at all. I know she wants to go back when she is healed so we can try it again. My wife and i were going to try and get to DL Paris next trip, but we may put it off so we can all go to wdw again next year, or later this year, depening on what happens. If disney would have just said sorry or let her use an ECV, we probably would have been fine, but they let us fend for ourselves on her walking. that upset us a lot. I do know they are covering themselves. I work for a major grocery company as a manager and if we have someone get hurt, we just hand them a form to fill out and we fax it in and claims handles it as well. We cannot say a word either, but we at least try to help them or do what we can when it happens at our level, no matter whose at fault.

Even though claims has called us now and has said they will have a check for us for medical and want to settle it, they have not admitted a thing. They did say we will have to sign a release which, as ive seen at my company, it will give them something for bills and settlement, but we would have to sign saying we dont hold them liable or cannot go back after them later if we accept. Thats just how big companies work sadly.

Again, my thanks to everyone who helped and wished us well. i will post the outcome if im able-they may have a no talk clause-or least say when we are done with them.

:grouphug: to everyone for us.

:grouphug: to you and your SD.

I'm just appalled at the treatment you received here on the DIS. Your SD was hurt, and no matter whether or not she caused it (I don't believe she did), it would have been nice to get a little sympathy when you were stuck in a place with no supportive family or friends. Your reactions at the time were perfectly normal and reasonable. I can't say that I would have reacted any differently.

Disneyfun1 I am so glad that you responded so quickly. Best wishes to you and your family. You all are in my prayers.

I am sorry she got hurt. That can't be fun while on vacation. However, at Disney guests need to be at least 18 in order to operate the Disney-loaned ECVs.

If you don't want to read all 23 pages...

Three kids on Splash Mountain, no adults with them. Supposedly girl's foot gets wedged in front of the inside of the log, somehow she wrenches it too, and they have to take the log apart to free her.

Father posts on DIS from his onsite resort how WDW is doing nothing for them, he wants a free trip, etc. Doesn't accept wheelchair for girl, sits in room with entire family and sulks. Didn't like service at ER, either.

Posters sympathize, posters blame girl, posters blame father, etc.

You spelled your name wrong: You have to substitute a u for the e and you will have it. :thumbsup2

I was on the ride on 4/30 during EMH about midnight. As we neared the deboarding area we became stopped. Thought they were helping someone get in or out of the log, but it took a really long time.

Maybe 10-15 minutes, CMs came around and said we'd be doing an evacuation exit. We were close to the maintainence area, and were lead out that way. We could see the boarding area, and there was medical staff their tending to someone. People in a log that were stranded in no mans land were still their and said they could hear someone screaming.

Anyone know what happend??
Dave,
Why......just why. If you truely don't know what you have started then I will give you a pass but my hunch is that you are trying to stir up some trouble!
Why Dave, why.

Ummm well if you look at his most recent posts- they are from yesterday and the 29th of April, right before he left. According to another post he was in Disney until May 6th.

The thread that was locked was started on the night of the 30th and locked on May 2nd- way before he even got back from his trip and I'm sure it's pages and pages from the front by now.

So no, I don't think he started this to stir anything up, just genuinely wanted to know.

Why not accuse people once you've done a quick look at the poster yourself?

Disneyfun1~ I hope your SDD is doing well and all works out with Disney! So sad to have this happen, especially at the beginning of the trip! :grouphug:

Thank you for the wonderful synopsis of the thread. You did forget the hospital part.

to Disneyfun 1, I am so sorry about everything you and your family went through but am glad that your duaghter is doing better.
i also would like to commend you for remaining calm and levelheaded in your postings here and on the original thread. I think some posters were downright rude to you, and I would have lost it with them but you didn't. :hippie:
i really love it here at the Dis Boards, but sometimes people make me wonder.

That's a racial slur, and I'm reporting it - if you don't know the meaning of that obscene word, shame on your ignorance.

Good for you! There was no need for that. We're not supposed to call each other names around here. :sad2:

When I look up that word on Webster's it says it means jerk. I never knew it was a racial slur. http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/schmuck

I did the same search- looked at about 10 different websites and couldn't find it as a racial slur- even searched the word with the term "racial slur" and came up with nothing.

Yes, it was an insult and those aren't allowed in the first place- but I guess you can color me ignorant with the rest of America because I can't find the racial slur in it :confused3

I'm glad your step-daughter is feeling better. That's the most important thing...

For the life of me though, I don't understand why you came here to vent about what Disney ISN'T doing for you though. How does this help your situation? You admitted that at your job, it's all handled by the claims department, same as Disney. You shouldn't have been surprised that Disney followed their own procedure, step-by-step. Also, you're still waiting for Disney to "admit" something. Well, you're getting your money back for all the medical expenses, right? Isn't that enough? Isn't that what you were looking for since the start of all of this? I honestly think Disney is being very fair.

If I sound rude or out of line, I apologize. However, this issue was made publicly on these boards and I'm just adding my 2 cents. Again, I'm glad your step-daughter is on the up and up.

I believe that the exact quote to my post started like this, "If you truely don't know what you have started I will give you a pass"
I was not kidding when I said that! I really meant it. Honestly, I did. If you need me to s-p-e-a-k m-o-r-e s-l-o-w-l-y, I can but that is what I said. In my job, I get paid to read people and that post sounded a little fishy. Perhaps, I get paid too much money because I am apparantly not a good people reader. Have a great day! :thumbsup2

Schm*ck, substituting a u for the e in my screen name, is a derogatory word in Yiddish. Schmeck is a family nickname of mine, and has nothing to do with schm*ck.

I'm happy that the OP of the original injury thread is getting monetary compensations for medical costs. The demand for an ECV was off, since the child was not legally old enough to use a rented one. I find expecting immediate gratification for the situation unreasonable, as other posters pointed out that WDW and other companies must legally cover their behinds at all times to prevent fraud. The OP also mentioned monetary compensation for the trip, and being in their room instead of enjoying the parks as they wanted to. It came across on the internet as sulking to me - I apologize for not understanding the OP's idea of sulking was not the same as mine.
