is it to early to be thinking about these??
Dh said he saw something somewhere saying that it was going to be a very active season :scared1:
Can they really tell that yet?
I dont mind so much once i'm their...just dont want one to stop me getting their!! ;)

probably they are comparing the weather now against other seasons and finding that it mirrors active seasons, predictions only and lets face it there is no real accuracy beyond 4/5 days on most weather.

we were delayed a few dys due to a hurricane, then got evacuated from st petes then had to sit in a hotel for 24 hours while hurricane jeane flew over us!

We are getting married on sept 2nd in disney and I'm hoping not to have any!

www.noaa.gov has all the info you could ever want on hurricanes. Here's a quote

For 2008, the outlook indicates a 60 to 70 percent chance of 12 to 16 named storms, including 6 to 9 hurricanes and 2 to 5 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5 on the Saffir-Simpson Scale).

Hurricane season starts June 1 and ends Nov 30. Half the year we're supposed to be ready for them. I've lived in FL 30 years and have only had 3 hurricanes ever have any impact on me. Odds are you'll be fine!

Take your pick May till November!!Even if you check daily they hardly ever predict 100% as there is always the chance the Hurricane will turn or hit landfall somewhere else.Like Orangetiggs we sat thru' Jeanne, which was the 3rd of 3 in a row for some, apart from closing Ep closing early the day before & having to stay in the Hotel for 2 days,it didn't really affect us.
SD:thumbsup2

I'm getting married on August 21st so a hurricane is really the only thing that will cause a problem so fingers crossed

we were at the Caribbean Beach Resort when Frances hit in 2004 & to be honest I think we were better off in Disney because although we had to stay in our room for the day that was it, we didnt lose power/water & Disney busses ran the next day even though the sherriff still had all other routes closed & we've never seen the parks so empty. the coast was hit badly that time but Disney itself suffered minimal damage & because of the landscaping we felt it protected us more than adequately.

We got Charley in 2004 - DIsney were great, they looked after us so well.

We were in Carribean Beach for Charlie in 2004. Even though the storm went right over Disney we sat on the porch on and watched for the first couple of hours.

The parks were back open the following day, but I have to say, as much as I love Disney, the Hurricaine was pretty exciting. The downside was that most of the cast members had their homes damaged/blown away - I can't believe they all turned up for work with a smile on their face!

What amused us with Charley was that there was a message from the resort on our phone saying for our enjoyment there would be a selection of Disney films plaing continuously on resort tv.

would check out http://www.orlandosentinel.com/ from the 1st of june for huracane info,on the weather page,
To be honest the forcasters dont realy know how many will form, get to cat1 above and how many will make landfall.
Most likely you would get a bad rainy day(that puts the mockers on our aug trip)
Just be prepared (DW says make sure we pack a torch:rotfl: )

We always keep a check on the national hurrican centre which is based in miami, its great as it maps all the hurricans and tropical storms, their strength and routes etc. I dont know the web address but if you look on google Im sure you will find it.

I am another Hurricane Charley "survivor" from 2004. My family and I didn't stay onsite at Disney, we were in our own villa. It was fine, felt like a big storm that lasted hours. They prepare you really well for it and some other family members that stayed onsite during a hurricane said Disney did loads to make sure they were safe and comfortable :)

Saying that, I've been to Florida 7 times and each time during "Hurricane season" and have only ever had one hurricane. There may be a chance you wont get one anyway! :)

its a very scary thought, but i think ill stick to the head in the sand approach and if it were to happen then ill worry about

i think if you start thinking about all these things that can happen, and i know they do, but we would just never go anywhare again

We've never been to florida before and my 7 year old has been learning about the weather (and hurricanes) at school.

He is now desperate to be in america when they have a hurricane:rotfl2:
(guess what MUM is desperate to not be there)

My son was 6 when we were there in 2004 for hurricane charley! Ever since he has been hooked on any kind of "different weather". He too had been learning about it in school and as it happens he experinced it first hand! On a good note we did get to stay in Florida for 5 days extra due to flights being cancelled!!!
