Hurricane watch 2018

Let me tell you all. WOW! We changed our dates to Sept 17-23 this morning. But the track is getting worse. So I have now been on hold and talking with the CM's for an hour. We have decided to change our trip to Sept 27-Oct 3. It is the safest thing for us to do at this point. There are rooms available at the Pop and thanks to this board for giving me the information about the hurricane policy (that most CM's seem to not know) I am getting the run around. I have now been told that there are no discounted rooms. I have explained that we are just asking for our package to be honored. So I sit on hold. If anyone here needs to change their reservation...I wish you luck. This is not fun.

I was at a conference last year when I had to try and reschedule because of Irma. I just didn't have the time to be on hold for 3 hours to try and figure out how to reschedule our Free Dining reservations. I ended just cancelling and dealing with it all when I got home. I feel for you . . . not fun at all.

What is their policy if the hurricane is not directly impacting WDW? Is it normal for them to adjust things if is is not coming towards WDW? I just remember what they did last year when it was heading towards WDW as I was slated to be there.

We changed out trip last year when Irma was heading directly for FL and the CMs could not have been more knowledgeable or helpful.

I would recommend to others to wait until closer to your dates to make decisions as these storms can be so unpredictable and a week out is a long ways off in the life of a storm. If the storm does actually change direction again and head towards WDW I can say that they will do their utmost to help you out.

Florence is not even scheduled to hit FL at all so I'm not sure the hurricane policy would even apply at this time.

Ugh, I'm sorry you have to deal with this and the imminent threat of a hurricane at your home. Hopefully Disney comes through and moves your package dates for you.

Have they actually issued the official Hurricane Warnings yet? Maybe that is the issue with Disney changing things at this point?

I totally understand you wanting to make a decision now and take care of things. I would be doing exactly the same thing.

I am just trying to understand Disney's stance for future storms and vacations and for others that will be affected by Florence.

I believe so since they have advised for evacuations ahead of the s

Actually, I don't think they are issued until 36 hours out....trying to verify that info though. That seems to be right for the hurricane that I just went thru here.

Here is what I found....
Hurricane warnings and watches are issued 36 hours and 48 hours, respectively, before tropical storm-force winds may strike, according to the NOS.

The latest NWS summary on Florence states there are no hurricane watches or warnings in effect yet but they “could be issued by Tuesday morning.” So that likely is part of the problem at least. The governor of the state can issue evacuation notices without regard to NWS warnings.

I wasn't able to post over the weekend, but I hope everyone is preparing and able to stay safe. My flight should be mostly unaffected by Florence, but it's a crazy week with all the storms in the Atlantic at the moment.

As someone who's been through hurricanes before, I feel anxiety for those of you in the path and I truly hope it isn't as bad as they're saying.

Sorry about that the article I read on my apple news said mandatory evacuations ordered in the headline so I assumed it was already issued. I see now that it says for Hatteras Island stating at noon today which I assume means it already has taken place.

If you live in the Carolina's don't mess around with this.

Get you hurricane stuff together NOW, fill your propane tanks, your fuel tank, get batteries, water, etc NOW before every one loses their minds and raids home depot and the grocery store and gas becomes impossible to find.

One of the biggest issues to deal with when hurricanes hit is the insanity that comes before it. Bottled water, plywood, gas, propane batteries, etc disappear off the shelves in a matter of hours.

This x 1000. Today you have plenty of time. Do it TODAY.

Yes, it is correct about the mandatory evacuations in effect for the Outer Banks. Our son lives in Kill Devil Hills, NC and the evacuations have started. We live in Raleigh and Florence is now a 4 and will most probably still be a Hurricane Cat. 1 here, but out son & family will be coming here.

Things are a madhouse even here. People are definitely taking it serious - which they should. I've been through several of these bad ones - between LA and here, and they are plenty scary.
