I am more ready than I have ever been before. Why? Because after last year's Hurricane Ike, which stayed on top of us for 12 hours without budging an inch, I informed DH that his relatives will never come refugee with us again.

They are always in the zone that is first to be under mandatory evacuation and they flee inland to us. They did it for Rita and for Ike. Thanks heavens Rita turned out to be a nonevent for us. But Ike was another story.
In truth, we should have gottenthehelloutta Dodge, but with his relatives hunkered down for the duration of the storm and its aftermath, (especially his whining, complaining, fit-throwing mother, who gritched nonstop that Chick-Fil-A was not open) we couldn't leave. Noooooooo.......We had to stay put to take care of them.....mainly HER. Never mind that we were putting ourselves in danger for someone who didn't appreciate a thing we were doing and made it as difficult as possible.
When the sky cleared and mercifully our house was spared....but not the homes of most of our neighbors....I told DH that never again would we host anyone during a hurricane. If I felt the urge to run away, I wanted to be able to grab my kid and my cat and get out of town and not be obligated to anyone. Period. He didn't argue. I told him, "Here is the new evacuation plan for your mother. One of you drives her to the airport and puts her on a plane north to your brother. He can take care of her during the hurricane and while the power is out afterward. He's her favorite anyway. Let him do some work for a change."

The only question is: Southwest or Continental?
That's my plan and I'm sticking to it.
