OMG I loathe hurricane season, I get so freaked seeing one form especially if ikt may come my way.
This year, 2 of the names are my exdh and my ex fiance:scared1:

So for those of us who have been affected by a hurricane, are you ready for this year? Va had a no state tax on hurricane supplies that ends today.

I am more ready than I have ever been before. Why? Because after last year's Hurricane Ike, which stayed on top of us for 12 hours without budging an inch, I informed DH that his relatives will never come refugee with us again. :rotfl2: They are always in the zone that is first to be under mandatory evacuation and they flee inland to us. They did it for Rita and for Ike. Thanks heavens Rita turned out to be a nonevent for us. But Ike was another story.

In truth, we should have gottenthehelloutta Dodge, but with his relatives hunkered down for the duration of the storm and its aftermath, (especially his whining, complaining, fit-throwing mother, who gritched nonstop that Chick-Fil-A was not open) we couldn't leave. Noooooooo.......We had to stay put to take care of them.....mainly HER. Never mind that we were putting ourselves in danger for someone who didn't appreciate a thing we were doing and made it as difficult as possible.

When the sky cleared and mercifully our house was spared....but not the homes of most of our neighbors....I told DH that never again would we host anyone during a hurricane. If I felt the urge to run away, I wanted to be able to grab my kid and my cat and get out of town and not be obligated to anyone. Period. He didn't argue. I told him, "Here is the new evacuation plan for your mother. One of you drives her to the airport and puts her on a plane north to your brother. He can take care of her during the hurricane and while the power is out afterward. He's her favorite anyway. Let him do some work for a change." :lmao: The only question is: Southwest or Continental? :confused3

That's my plan and I'm sticking to it. :thumbsup2

We pretty much stay prepared. I hate running to the stores when everyone is in a panick. I do need to add a few more packages of batteries and some extra pet food. Other than that I think we are set. :thumbsup2

Oh my goodness, this had me laughing. But I so understand.

Let's pretend MIL's name is Doris. Around here we have a saying. "First there was Hurricane Ike. Then came Hurricane Doris. Doris was worse." :rotfl2:

:rotfl:I wish you lots of luck this season. I hope you never have to deal with Hurricane Doris under those circumstances again. :goodvibes

that's the real reason to stock up on duct tape:rotfl2:

just kidding.

Seriously, I wish all of us who may be in the path of a hurricane to be safe.
It only takes 1 disaster to come knocking on your door, or my case roof to rock your world but not in a good way.

Thank you. :goodvibes You too!!

No, no and please noooooo.

After Ike last year we lost our electricity for 15 days. Yep, two weeks and it was miserable. :scared:

When the electricity finally came back on, I felt like I was hooked up to a grid. Lol! It was such a surreal feeling for the next 3 or 4 days to be able to use the lights, etc again. And boy did I miss our air conditioner. Even the animals acted grateful when the power came back on. They were suffering right along with us.

For me, it's not the hurricane itself that's frightening. It's all about the aftermath. Even today people over here still have tarps on their roofs. It's ridiculous and I feel so sorry for them. I live in the Woodlands (Texas), and the fallen trees have just been left there to rot, too.
