I'm planning on going to wdw in Nov15-23. I just found out its hurricane season. I did a search and it said its from June -Nov 30th. Why are the rates higher during this time? A preffered room at POP is $111.00 per night. I had been wondering why attendance is slow and was told its the best time to go-lol! I'm from ca, so what aiport for connecting should i avoid in Nov? Should i get travel insur? Should i worry? This is my first real vacation and I'd hate to pay lots of money especially for airfare if weather will cause problems. Thanks for any info and opinions

It's been ages since I've been to WDW, so take this for what it's worth:

I really wouldn't let the prospect of hurricanes kill my November vacation (obviously-- I'm a teacher, so I'm going in August-- prime hurricane season.) You're going at the very tail end of the season. (Hurricanes need warm water to thrive. By the end of November, they're a rarity. August, however, is another story.)

Also, keep in mind: Orlando is an hour inland. Even if a hurricane did hit, they're pretty good at battening down the hatches at Disney. They live in Florida; they know the drill. I've read several accounts of people here who did manage a trip during a hurricane; each spoke of one day stuck in a resort, then back to business the next day.

The rates are higher because you're right around the corner from Thanksgiving. Lots of parents hook a trip onto Thanksgiving break, figuring the kids will get a longer vacation and miss fewer days of school.

I don't think the hurricane-connecting airport link is an important one. Airfares are so high, just do the best you can. You might consider looking at www.bookingbuddy.com for flights.

We did opt for trip insurance. While we probably could have gotten it cheaper elsewhere, we got the $100 policy offered by AAA. That way, should someone come down sick or something, we won't lose the vacation I've spent over a year (and several thousand dollars) planning.

Don't worry, and have a great time planning your vacation!!

Thanks for the info. This is our first real family vacation and as it is, i'm worried about booking so far inadvance. My dd is 9 so i want this to be a great vacation. I work a year round school so Nov is vacation time. I wouldnt be able to handle the heat in June and July(vacation time). I'm hoping to find a good deal on SW and if we need to cancel they give credit toward future flights. This vacation is turning out to be more expensive then i thought, thanks to the airlines.
I'll take a look at the site you posted. Have you bought tickets from them before?

This is my first Disney trip since 1990-- a house and kids got in the way :)

I've been researching soooo much since last August; I'm absolutely amazed at all I've learned. I put a lot of it into a newbies thread. Maybe you'll be able to get something out of it: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1715551

As to airfare: I watched the prices like a hawk for about a month. Then, just before New Years, I booked. (Jetblue out of JFK-- $99 per person each way, so $1000 for my family of 5. The last time I checked, it had gone up by $100 per person, so I'm one happy consumer.) But, no, I ended up buying from Jetblue.

Do you know where you're staying in Disney?

Gotta run, make the lunches, and get the kids up for school. Good luck!

I've been to WDW in Nov and I don't consider attendance to be slow. I would describe it as moderate. Definitely better than the summer months though. When we were there in Nov, the weather was beautiful. I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

While hurricane season technically lasts until Nov 30th, the chances of one hitting Florida that late in the year are very, very small. They usually start dying out by October (September 10th is the statistical peak of the seaon - everything after than slows down). If you are going in mid-to-late November I would say there is almost zero reason to worry about a hurricane.
