Hurricane Rita

Here's one of the latest projected paths. Let's hope that front keeps it in the south and that it goes so far south that it never makes landfall and fizzles out!

What is up with all these dang hurricanes?! ENOUGH ALREADY! I think we have had our fair share for the year GEEEEEEE! We are leaving the 27th, and will be there until the 6th. Now my DH says there is another hurricane besides rita.

NO MORE HURRICANES!!!!!! We leave on Saturday, so I am constantly watching the Weather Channel, driving my family nuts. So far, I think we will be ok!

Hi everyone :wave2: Looks like Rita is going to be knocking on my front door!
We have rode out many storms here on the Gulf Coast~ it would be terrible if we have to evacuate, because we have so many New Orleans evacuees here already~ My heart goes out to those people who have to "run" again! I am hoping this storm will head to Mexico. As for" what we have learned from Katrina" ...hard to compare, our geographic area is different so we would not have same devastating results. We do evacuate if the storm is a #2 or above. We have been dealing with Hurricane threats for a longggggg time and our local governments have a strong evacuation system (plan)in place.
Have a Great Day

I hope everything goes okay for you. I will be praying for you.

Yep, we're in the projected path too - especially if it starts turning more northeast. I have family that returned to the NOLA area late last week. Now they're on their way back here! Crossing my fingers that Rita's not as nasty as Katrina & we can still leave on the 30th!

Well--the "cone of uncertainty" looks pretty large. And you could probably find some computer "dynamical models" that show it heading places other than shown in serenity's post.
So we just wonder-is forecaster Knabb correct?? Or will next advisory be entirely different??

There are only 4 more storm names for 2005 - Stan, Tammy, Vince and Wilma. If we have a fifth storm it would be named Alpha.

Rita has now been updated to Category 2. I hope she does not follow the same path as Katrina. Let's keep our fingers crossed for everyone on the Gulf Coast.

No. Since they have been naming storms, they have never run out.

Hey all!

Cat. 5 now... not good :( ..... my sisters family (gynmasticscoach,tx) and mom is leaving for higher ground. She is 10 miles from Freeport, Tx which is right next door to galveston. I'm in Sugar Land, 50 miles up, right outside of Houston. Little sad here, I work for the City of Sugar Land Public Works and we have to stay....say the least all my family has gone up north, and i'm here by myself.... well guess not totally, i have my 2 kitties... Nikeo and Soleil....

So i guess we will see! I'll tell ya whats really weird is that all the stores are empty.... cant say i've never seen Super Wal-mart with out any groceries.... weird!! Let me tell ya finding bottled is like gold around here! I scored some at lunch time by chance.... too bad it wasnt the lottery!!!!

Look like we will really be lookin forward to our trip Nov 30-Dec4th!!

Wow. My kids are so worried about this. They want me to go buy more emergancy supplies. Poor things, I guess even with me keeping the news off they are hearing about it at school. We are in Austin, pretty far inland and all we should get is wind and rain. I guess we could get some tornados.... let's hope not.

My prayers are with you all in tx. Jordancej: I am sorry you have to stay please stay safe. I hope that the storm dies down even a little as to cut down on some of the damage tx is a great state who showed great kindness after the Katrina huricane cudos to you all for takeing care or your neibors.

as stated above my prayers are with you all

My prayers are with everyone in the path of Rita, as well. From what I've seen on the news, this one could be devastating :(

My prayers are with all in Rita's path. I just hope it could fizzle out, but beyond that I guess. We are scheduled for the World next Friday and just hearing all these terrible weather problems all over takes some of the joy out of our upcoming vacation. Try and be safe if in Rita's path. ::MinnieMo

Going to be a bit more rainy I think, but other than that we have been pretty lucky (knock on wood) with weather. Just remember those ponchos!

Too all :wave2: ... thank so much your prayers! My sister finally made it to Waco, it took them about 14 hrs i think, this is usually a 4 hour drive. YIKES!!!

Anyway, this is my first chance to get back on the computer. Looks like the storm is moving a little east, but we will still get the rains and the winds. Right now, the winds are picking up and the clouds are starting to move in. This morning it was beautiful blue skies, so its kinda weird how fast things can change. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone is being effected by Rita.

Will keep you posted! ;)

Thanks again!

btw.... my divorce is final today, and my official X now, his nickname for me was Rita.... ok how weird is that!!!!
