Has anyone used this policy?

We've ridden out four hurricanes in MCO during our annual fall trips. Hadn't expected to face one again this year, especially after the recent storm

Closely watching tropical Storm Milton. it's slowly crossing the very warm gulf, picking up Strength as it goes. Strong predictions it may land as a CAT 3.

Scenario A: spaghetti models show strong chance of it tracking thru Tampa on Weds AM. then, up the I-4 to Orlando & the Atlantic, where it might fire up again

B - Hate to wish it on anyone, including those further south of TPA in say Fort Myers area. It would be far less of a factor for Orlando if it tracks south

We are scheduled to fly into
MCO Monday AM

If it winds up being strongly predicted to Develop into a CAT 4, not inclined to sit it out in MCO this go-round.

We'd be onsite at Universal until Next Saturday, when onto AK/WDW.

since announcement of the storm was made within 7 days of our WDW arrival, I'm interpreting we should be able to cancel the DVC res or not. Really don't know

Using AK December '23 UY points. Normally, it would be too late to bank. No idea if they would make an exception in this sort of instance.

Even if there would be availability in that UY, I wouldn't be able to commit to another trip between now & the end of November

Already have a trip booked early Dec, pre cruise, using points from another contract @ WL

Carefully, scheduled surgery the 3rd week of this month; between trips lol. My dr knowing I have a travel habit, specifically told me I won't be able to fly for at least 2-3 weeks afterwards.

Am I missing anything here? Wanted to get all our options together before we may need to reach out to MS

MS has been known to make a one time exception to the banking deadline under certain circumstances. But it's by a case by case basis.

I would keep an eye on my scheduled flights. The airline is more likely to be proactive about allowing you to reschedule to an earlier or later day.

If you are canceling because of the storm, MS will usually work with you to bank those points even though beyond the deadline.

Reports already they are waiving the holding penalty as well. We had this happen and they even I borrowed points for us years back because of it.

Give them a call if you decide to cancel.

I called today about a 1 night stay on Wednesday. They were happy to cancel the stay, take the points out of holding and and bank them into the next UY (my banking window closed on 9/30). Seems like they are definitely making exceptions but not sure if it was b/c my banking window just closed less than a week ago. You could call and feel out your options.

We were supposed to arrive today. Called this morning to cancel and all the points were returned to my current use year (not lost or put in holding) - used them to make a new reservation next May. Very thankful for this option, as it looks like the storm will go straight through Central Florida, and we would have had pretty much continuous rain every day of our trip.

I am sure they were happy because if they will probably need the room for people there that may need to stay an additional night.

When we were there a couple of years ago, we had to add a night on to our stay and booked a one bedroom using points at Boardwalk villas.

The trip may have been hampered by the hurricane but we felt very safe at the Boardwalk and there was minimal damage to the resort and grounds.

They provided decently priced buffets and bagged lunches priced within reason.

We were at the Boardwalk too during Ian and agree the CMs and Disney did an incredible job keeping us safe and fed.a

Good to hear! We last hunkered down during storm at AKVJ. Boma had meals approx $20. We ate there 3 times lol. Had games & activities galore.

We decided to switch up this trip. Canceled the 5 night stay at U beginning

We were outside the SWA dates to switch flights by a day early. Waited on call for hours to plead our case after paying $500 plus more to move flight down to this Saturday. They did finally agree to credit me that up charge. Nice gesture

Added on 3 days after Disney portion of trip at U. Who did refund our deposit.

Good luck to all weathering the storm. Glad I listened to family and decided not to fly into the storm

Kind of screwed as we are using 2022 December use year banked points, so even if they gave them back no time to get them used before they are useless December 1. It is what it is and a chance you take with a timeshare. Going to fly in later tomorrow instead of Wednesday and roll the dice. Couldn't stay on property tomorrow night though as no new reservations are being allowed by Disney. Hopefully get a few park days before the flights home.

Good luck. Perhaps before you catch that flight, call MS & explain, might catch some pixie dust re UY

Likely a good idea to have switched. We fly in Thursday and are hoping things are cleared up...

If there is availability for your earlier arrival, they may be able to add to an existing reservation - as you'll be there anyway.

They won’t allow the double banking of points, even with hurricanes.
I was going to start a new thread with this question and then decided to read this one to see if someone had already answered it. Should have guessed it might be @Sandisw 😀

Do you know if you might have more flexibility “in “unborrowing” points you pulled forward a UY back to their original year? I hadn’t considered the weather hazard cancellation risks for using points in the second half of a UY until this week.

This Thursday, as in 3 days from now? Milton is projected to make landfall between midnight Wednesday to 2 AM Thursday morning, with the strongest weather reaching Orlando sometime in the 6 to 8 AM time frame.

Yes, they will return borrowed points as those were specifically done for this trip.

The only thing that can not do is double bank which is simply not allowed because the inventory that went with those points is from a previous year.
