Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

We live in Cincinnati. Years ago, maybe 2007, we had winds from Hurricane Ike come through. This was unprecedented in our area. We had wind gusts up to 60 mph. We, in Cincinnati, MILES from impact, were without power for 5 days. Now, Cincinnati is not " built" for hurricanes, but don't underestimate the power of this storm if you are 45 minutes from the coast. We were 13 hours from the coast and felt the wrath...

We lost most of our roof that day! in NKY.

I've been quietly keeping up with this thread since it started.. I wanted to be sure to thank all those who have contributed to it, you've all been a blessing to those in need of real time information at a time where conflicting info is all over & hard to come by information is lacking

I will continue to watch & will add anything I find which may be helpful as I keep those in harms way in my thoughts & prayers.

True Story - Prior to Ike's landfall I was in the middle of loads of laundry and dishes in the dishwasher when the power randomly went out about 10 hours prior to landfall. I was so mad!

Haha, I think I could relate to how you must have felt. It's like, I've got stuff to do. How DARE the weather interrupt me!

Walt Disney World Gas Stations, Car Rental and Pet Care closing early today

Just saw this announced:

Due to the approaching Hurricane Matthew, more closures are now being confirmed for the Walt Disney World area.

• Speedway gas stations at Walt Disney World will close at 6pm on Thursday.
• Best Friends Pet Care will close at 6pm on Thursday through Friday.
• The Car Care Center outside of the TTC will close at 2pm today through Friday.
• Alamo Rent A Car will close at 3pm today through Friday.

There are now mandatory evacuations happening on Georgia coast.

I've gotten 2 calls this morning (both went to voicemail tho) about how my reservation at Ft Wilderness (Sat-Tues) is cancelled and I need to call and reschedule - well, one said it was cancelled, the second voicemail said it was still active and it's imperative I call back immediately, but she gave me the general reservations number that has the long wait. I can't really sit on the phone for 60+ minutes at work, so I'll probably call back when they re-open on Saturday. My husband's been on the phone for 3+ hours trying to deal with our MNSSHP tickets (Friday night) that he thought he'd cancelled, but they keep sending me emails stating that I've purchased them rather than cancelled them. I'm sure that will work itself out tho and I'm not worried. We have other issues with our Monday MNSSHP tickets, but we won't try to reschedule those until Saturday morning, too.

The call center closes tonight at 7pm and won't open back up til Saturday morning.

The rideout teams assess damages on an ongoing basis thruout the storm. They don't just wait until it's all over and then decide.

Also I am pretty sure staff will be out and about as soon as the threat is gone. They will be wanting to get back to normal as soon as possible to start making money again.

I'll be looking for the most open spot available at Board Walk, hopefully near or between larger vehicles, far from anything that can be blown down. We won't be there until Wed. the 12th but we may get a loop around from Matthew so I have to have a plan.

I'm not sure what the call centers nearby are like, but be aware that call wait times may jump if they also have to evacuate

I saw some posts come up while I was gone (I needed some Chickfila Sweet Tea .... yes I bought a gallon, don't judge me) .............

asking about hotels and how long folks will stay. Georgia coast is now fully evacuating.

My friend in Savannah is headed to Helen in North Georgia, the closest room she could get that would take a dog. Macon hotels and those on 75 been booked.

"Prediction" is that Georgia coast will be possibly hit all day Saturday through possibly Sunday morning. Then folks will not be allowed back over until everything is cleared. Folks could stay in hotels through Monday. AND traffic will be rough since not many highways over there.

I seriously would not head that way or through Georgia with any plans to stop unless you have secured a hotel reservation. I've done the blizzard and tornado storm run with no reservation and it's a nightmare.

EDIT: Just announced Atlanta hotel rooms about gone. Look towards Chattanooga for rooms.

Something seemingly dumb that might make everything more pleasant for those riding out the storm. I've seen mention of getting laundry done, but not of getting baths/showers done. If you are in a single bathroom dwelling, you will likely need to keep your bathtub filled with water for this event (in the event power is lost), thus making bathing really tough (who wants sink baths?). Therefore, it might be a good idea to get everyone a bath or shower by the storm start tonight. Being clean is just more pleasant and probably more calming for many - normalcy is the goal and that will provide more normalcy, especially to kids.

I'm not sure how they are organized, just that there is a major one in Orlando. I believe it houses multiple agent specialities
