As of 1:00 p.m. EDT Sunday, Ivan, the 5th hurricane of the 2004 Atlantic season, was centered at 10.1 north, 46.6 west, or about 1995 miles east of the Windward Islands. The storm has been rapidly strengthening today, and is now a category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Some additional strengthening is expected over the next couple of days. The storm is moving to the west at 21 mph, and should continue to over the next couple of days with a gradual turn toward the west-northwest. This would bring the storm into the Caribbean Tuesday afternoon or night, then into the north-central Caribbean by the end of the week. There is great uncertainty in where the storm would track from there.

OMG

Nope, I've taken the WELCOME MAT away so Ivan can go play else where.

Here's the latest update on Ivan from the National Hurricane Center:

All I keep doing is praying it doesnt hit us!! :( I really hope it gets banged up on the mountains and then just blows out to sea.
We are cleaning up now and the last thing we need is another storm :(

Isn't it amazing...just truly amazing???!! I'm so blessed to be here in the panhandle where nothing has hit us here yet. Now we haven't got to October yet and that's when hurricanes start forming in the Gulf waters!! :( Heaven help us because those waters are warm and they only strengthen hurricanes not make them weaker.

Blessings to all of you in south FL...I just hope Ivan goes elsewhere, because some of you are still recovering from Charley bless your hearts.

I have lived in SW FL for 13 years and was never in a direct hit...Charley interupted my good fortune....eeks... 13 years just realized 13.. and yes, it came on Friday the 13th. I hope you fare well in Frances. Seems to be headed towards the panhandle.

I have also jinxed Florida. My fiancee & I have been planning a Disney wedding for the last year & a half. Now that D-day approaches, Florida gets hit with 2; possibly 3 hurricanes in less than a month. :(

But weather be darned, we're coming anyway. We are scheduled to arrive Sunday evening. I'll give you 2 guesses when Ivan will be scheduled to arrive also. As long as the Yacht Club Gazebo doesn't blow away I guess it'll work out one way or the other.

So, between our wedding plans and A Mickey Fan's unfortunate association with the number 13, the outlook for Ivan is bleak. :sad1:

My prayers are with the Florida residents affected by storms this year. As a Paramedic/Firefighter, I regularly see people at the worst times in their lives and it's something you never become accustomed to.

This is really getting old. I've lived in Florida three months and have been through two hurricanes. I DON'T WANT TO DO IT AGAIN! GO AWAY, IVAN!!!!

Its now a Catagory 2!! Looks like it might be weakening!::yes::

Latest I heard on the weather forecasts was that Ivan "the terrible" ;) was going to take a track across the mountainous areas of the Dominican Republic and Cuba and then hopefully end up in the Gulf as a weak Cat. 1 hurricane!!! :D Mountains do tend to kill off some of a hurricane's winds, so maybe if we wish and pray hard enough and use enough Pixie Dust, the mountains will knock off Ivan altogether!!!!! :teeth:

That would be great, since I'm sitll recuperating from Frances!!!!! :D
