Sorry to report just heard on fox news that hurricane isabel will hit vero beach, that is right they said vero beach on wed. sept. 17.

im sending all of you pixie dust that have ressies during this hurricane, isabel.

and im sending all of you pixie dust who decide to change your ressies and dont end up losing points because of isabel.

watch out here the pixie dust comes:wave:

Now, if my understanding is correct, if the VB resort is totally destroyed by the hurricane all current reservations booked at any DVC resort with VB points will be canceled. This is the way I understand the DVC offering documents. Can anyone confirm this?

Wow - that goes to show you, if you don't like one answer ask someone else. :) :)

We are tracking the hurricane on the cruise board and the National Hurricane Center thinks it will hit the Carolinas with a possibility of no land fall.

I guess there is only one person who knows for sure and He ain't talking.

Just posted on another thread. This is from the West Palm station

The storm's five-day forecast placed it roughly 350 miles east of Vero Beach by early Wednesday, provided it makes a predicted turn to the northwest. Forecasters said they would know more about the potential direction of the storm late this weekend.

"The big question continues to be what will happen beyond the five-day forecast period," National Hurricane Center forecaster Richard Pasch said. "It is still impossible to state with any confidence whether a specific area along the U.S. coast will be impacted by Isabel."

It's still too early to know. If I lived in Florida, I'd be making preliminary preparations but I wouldn't be getting upset yet.

Nah, it already looks too far North. Its definitely not going to hit this far down (I am way down near Miami). If it makes anyone feel better, we are getting walloped right now, not a hurricaine, but it is pretty wild out there right now....just your average late summer afternoon.

Hi,

I heard on my news that it might hit our coast (HHI territory). We'll just have to wait and see. Pixie dust is being sent in hopes that it doesn't hit anyone!!

I am stressed about WHEN it will hit. I have a flight from JFK to Orlando next Sat at 10:30..and I am guessing that if the hurricane is anywhere along the eastern seaboard, that would cause travel delays..or do they fly around it.
Once we know more definate info (hopefully by Sunday/Monday) I can make decisions about getting an earlier flight, Thurs. night or Friday. Somehow someway I WILL be in WDW by Saturday the 20th.
I am hoping that she doesn't hit land at all, we get hurricanes here in NJ from time to time, but they are usually just a bad storm, nothing that causes huge major damage, so I can't imagine.

I believe it is far too early for anyone to predict exactly where it will make landfall, IF it makes landfall.
It looks like Vero Beach could be on the southern edge of the possible strike range.

Besides, I will not be there! I was at Disney for Andrew and Floyd!!! (although neither hit Orlando).

Nuthut's question is interesting. What would happen?

Suppose someone has VB as their home resort and they used their points to book a family vacation at OKW. If a severe storm damaged the resort before they check-in at OKW, and if it was not possible to stay at VB while they were rebuilding, what would happen to that person's other reservation at OKW?

Would their VB points suddenly become worthless until the VB resort were rebuilt? Would DVC have to cancel their OKW vacation reservation? Could someone please check your bylaws and verify or refute this? TIA!!!

wdwstar...did a weatherperson actually report that the hurricane is *definitely* going to hit VB on Wednesday? If so, that's incredibly irresponsible.

I've been following the news on this thing since Monday and not once has the National Hurricane Center indicated that the hurricane would definitely hit *anywhere* let alone a specific town/city.

Sure, there's been lots of speculation on the part of weather buffs, hurricane chasers and the like. But that's just speculation.

The NHC is saying that it will be Monday before they even know if this thing is going to hit land at all, let alone where it will hit if that's the case.

Nothing is certain this far out but I think I'd be looking over the HHI documents more than those for Vero in terms of this storm. Hopefully, it will just turn out to sea and leave all of us alone.

I am praying for everyone. As a Floridian I know the danger of hurricanes. The Carolinas have certainly seen some really bad ones.
We own at VB, and my DH was concerned because of this reason. I want to add on points at HH. I just love the coastline.
So please if you believe, pray.

July:D

If a hurricane hit Florida and destroyed all of the DVC resorts in Florida because the state slipped into the ocean, would we all lose our ownership? Could we stay at HH? The HH owners might feel bad for us and let us stay in the closets while they are vacationing and they would only charge us half the points for the room! What a deal!

Would we still be able to trade them out with II? I mean, what would you trade?

Actually Disney's location at Shelter Cove is the best location on the island for storm protection. That is why it was named Shelter Cove.

We will all hope for the best for everyone, regardless of whether it's a DVC location or not.

Having fled SC for Floyd when it was "Definitely" going to hit CHarleston - and everyone from Florida to NC was fleeing because they couldn't tell what part of the 800 miles of coastline it would hit 12 hours before landfall- I can't believe a news channel would actually say the exact town a hurricane 300 miles out in the ocean will hit....We're a bit worried in Charleston - but I think it is pointless to try to predict this far out. Let's hope a front pushes it north before it hits any land...

The catastrophe clause in the contract is very confusing. Something about being able to use other DVC resorts on a "one to one purchaser to accomodation basis".

Working for an insurance company who got pounded with Andrew claims, I questioned my guide on it when I bought in 1999 (BWV). He said don't worry about it, you can make reservations elsewhere. I really don't have much confidence in that answer, like you can have 5 in a 1 bedroom. They may say that but if it comes down to the written contract it could be a different story. I don't see how that would work because you would have more points in the system than rooms if there was a closed resort.
