Hurricane Irma?

We arrive on the 9th with one night offsite and move to POP on the 10th and we also party tickets for the 10th.
Here is my current plan.
Watch closely till Wed evening.
If its going to impact the Party call and politely request a refund/exchange for Tuesday.
Call offsite hotel and move offsite stay to Friday the 15th.
Shift all park days to plan and which will lose my Fastpasses and BOG Breakfast but we will be in Disney so its ok.

Im counting on this event to be in and out Sunday/Monday

My wedding was saturday and outdoors and everything had to be moved around because of Harvey. Now, I'll be in Disney from 9/7-9/14 and now I have to deal with Irma. Poop.

I think these are my plans too. My birthday is Monday 9/11 and I had reservations at the Queens Table at V&A. Luckily, there was a table on the 7th when we arrive. We just moved our ressie so we are ok there. We had tickets for the Halloween party on Sunday the 10th. As soon as I hear a more definite forecast, I'm going to request to move my tickets to the 12th. I'll lose my brunch at the Cali Grill on Sunday Morning and BOG Sunday night. Besides the party, it was our off day so I'm not missing too much. Monday the 11th will be a disappointment since it's my birthday and I'll lose Sci Fi but since we saved V& A, I'll live.

It sucks but we can't change our honeymoon due to our work schedules. I guess I'll just be making a second pitcher of lemonade cause life is giving me lemons!

I was going to suggest the food idea. During Matthew, it was a mess with the food. People waited in huge lines for a boxed sandwich and apple. I remember the outrage and photos of various food courts with wall to wall people in line and sloppily made sandwiches. They charged a lot for the boxes too. If I were going to Disney, I would pack some granola bars, bread, peanut butter, pretzels, cookies etc. in tupperware to make sure we had stuff to eat. Also a deck of cards, coloring books for the kiddo's.
I second this. Was there and it was horrible watching what was going on. We had a rental car so I drove to Walmart and bought lunchables and some big bag of Doritos for less than what people were spending on property for the garbage bags full of snack sized chip bags they were taking back to their room

I said it earlier in the thread but I'll say it again, get some aluminum foil use that to wrap your sandwich in and place the iron on top. A hot Sammy for ya if u can't leave your room Maybe some bread, butter, and cheese. hotel grilled cheese!

What bad luck! These stories will be memories in the future that hopefully you'll love to tell.

If there is flooding in the areas where the water plants are, then you can't drink the water. That's what happened in Beaumont with Harvey. The water plant got flooded. Don't know how likely this is at Disney.

Now you have me curious . . .it's time for bed now, but I am going to look at Google maps tomorrow and see if they have a water plant on property somewhere. I'm thinking maybe north of AK, off Western Way. But so far (knocking on wood) we haven't had issues with water or power when riding out a hurricane at Disney.

Here's hoping we wake to some better news tomorrow! pixiedust:

We aren't planning on stocking up on water. We just usually buy a couple of gallons when we get there to use in our refillable water bottles. Just may grab an extra gallon in case 1 day is spent in the room.
They will have power and running water.

Pro Tip:

Take hurricane advice from a meteorologist; not a disboard member.

Everyone should learn critical thinking skills (especially when it comes to the internet, these days), gather info from multiple sources, and be prepared to act independently in a pinch. I don't think anyone is going to be risking their lives based on a post they read here, just for example.

So...is everyone just eating the cost on all of the changes they are making? I haven't seen any reports of airlines or Disney opening up approved changes since the path of the storm hasn't been determined yet.
We actually saved $109! :yay:

We arrive on the 7th but are staying in Cocoa Beach until the 10th (Sunday) when we drive to the Poly. Should we consider getting one night somewhere (or adding a night at Poly) on Saturday or should the one-hour drive early Sunday still be okay?

if it were me, and I couldn't wait til Wednesday to see what was likely to happen, I would make arrangements to not have to travel on Sunday, but no one can say for sure of course.

I guess that's good and bad for me. If it comes up the coastline, it better move fast. I leave for Disney on the 16th from Hartford..

There really is no winning for a hurricane like this except for it to go WAY out to sea. I hope you are not negatively impacted either. I have a hard time imagining it would take that long and still be strong enough to be a problem but I suppose far crazier things have happened.

Right now I would say the general consensus is to not change any plans until at least Wed. Then we will get a clearer picture of what the weekend will look like, and it still gives you a couple days to prepare.

All in all, I'm thinking we're the lucky ones. We might get our trips cut short and have a crappy couple of days, but right now I'm just happy I don't live in this state.

Any chance the 9/10 party could be sunny and dry? I know nothing is certain, but is it a (realistic) option? Planning a short trip from 9/8-9/12, driving from NC, with the main purpose the party.

I had asked the question initially about skipping the fighting over bottled water chaos and just filling my own bottles from the tap. I have a bunch in my recycling bin as we speak. Yes, I am a cheapskate, but that's how I afforded this trip on a $30k/yr income to begin with, lol! I am assuming the tap water at the hotels is safe to drink, in other words, and people just prefer to buy bottled water for convenience? I can't see any reason to buy bottled water personally if I can just bring an empty milk jug or two.

We were at Disney during Matthew last year. I took some empty water bottles to the food court and filled them with water at the drink station. The water is free and it is filtered.
